What is the difference between Democrats and Republicans?

It's been a little while since this question has been asked. Personally, I feel that the main difference is in the philosophy of live and let live. Republicans would rather have the entire world conform to their ideology or be punished until they do, whereas Democrats seem more willing to accept people for who they are. This is exemplified on Yahoo answers by the vitrolic writings of those who are in support of weakening the constitution and creating a police state and who have absolutly no desire to even consider an alternative point of view. It used to be that the main difference was on social issues. In the times of our fathers the nation was united in defense of the constitution and the bill of rights. There are those whom I am sure will call me a liberal pansy and other names meant to disparage my opinion, however, it is just as valid as anyones. And therein lies the true difference. I can accept that others will have differing opinions, can you?

What is the difference between Democrats and Republicans?
I agree with you totally. I think ever since Bush has revealed that he is a Christian man, it has also became about conforming everyone to christianity as well. I am a dem. with some conservative beleifs. I was raised in a christian envrionment, but do not push my beleifs on others. I beleive everyone is entitled to live the way they want to live. Believe what they want to beleive. I thought that's what our country was founded upon too. But conservatives seem set to prove me wrong. Ignorance is evident when other's views can not be seen because yours overshadows them. So I agree with you dear man. It is the neo conservs who are oblivious to truths.

Abortion kills many disabled people every year because the parents test for a specific disability. Many times, they will kill the child based on his or her disability. This is non-acceptance of the worst kind---they are KILLED for who they are. Not called names. Not told they can't marry. KILLED.

Democrats unfortunately support this and hide behind the phrase "right to choose" when it's actually a horrible human rights violation

Both the democrats and the republicans are intolerant of the beliefs of others. Democrats hardly accept people for who they are when they try to throw them in jail and charge them with RICO because they hold up banners saying "abortion kills babies". Republicans hardly accept people for who they are when they run around and label those who say Israel stepped over the line with Palestein as Jew-haters.

I would consider anyone who supports the concept of a second clause dominant 4th amendment, Miranda, invention of rights not ordained, as someone who weakens the constitution. I would consider the Dems creating Echelon more towards a police state than any other programs out there. And I would consider FDR opening all international email and locking up japs more of police state tactics than republicans.

Also, it was the dems that were the party of slavery and segregation. The republicans were the liberators. So, maybe you need to re-read your history and not throw stones from your glass house.

How do you get rid of woodchucks?

How do you get rid of woodchucks?
yes it does sound very obvious but you have to get rid of the wood they are living in. If it is a neighbors yard ask them to assit you. I would spray the plants daily with a cyanne pepper and water mix. other then that, at one time in Rochester NY my then husband sat out in the yard near the garden with a bow and arrow, lol, and waited for him. Good Luck
Reply:Try sprinkling hot pepper flakes around your plants. It will not permanently get rid of them but if you keep the pepper around the plants they will not bother them. It will usually last 2 weeks unless it rains really hard. I've used this for chipmunks and squirrels and it has really worked for me.
Reply:Fertilize or line your pansies with blood meal. Works for most herbivores and cats. They smell blood, assume it's fresh, and don't want to risk a predator.

Otherwise, I'm inclined to agree with the other guy. A 22 is what my parents always used when we lived in a rural area.

How do I care for Perennial Pansies?

I just moved into a new home that have perennial pansies in a circle around the outside lamp post. It looked gorgeous in June, but now all the stems are long and straw like and there are pansies growing at the tips. It looks horrid. What should/could I do??

How do I care for Perennial Pansies?
Perennial pansies are best planted in the fall. they grow then and bloom some. The live through the winter(althought they look well limp) and in spring you get kaboom! a beatiful late spring early summer display. they do die back when it gets hot so you will need to replant them in the fall for the same beauty next year. You can plant in spring too but not as pretty as if planted in fall. Therefore, not a true perennial living year after year.

Just go ahead a cut them back now or pull them up whichever you please. You could have planted some annuals when they started looking bad. You may still can if you can find some although it is getting really hot now and hard to get anything looking pretty.
Reply:Pansies hate the heat
Reply:Snip them back with scissors- remove the leggy ones and dead blooms.

Keep in mind.

Pansies will rarely make it as a true "Perennial". But they may seed themselves.

Oddly, it is more likely they will survive the winter rather than the summer.

With some luck: you may be able to have them make it...

I have been able to cut them back nearly to the root and have them sprout back in the fall. (Plantings from March...!) BUT they were week plants when they came back.

Pansies are cool weather plants and will look best when treated as annuals. Those planted in fall may make until Christmas. Or even to the spring, hence the term "Perrenial Pansie". (But they really are not perrenial).

---Note: Many types of Pansies will sprount from seed- "self seeded" from the previous year... The "Johnny Jump -Up" type seem to do this very well.

Do pansies came back every year? How long will they bloom?

I planted some panies but I don't really know much about. What can you tell me?

Do pansies came back every year? How long will they bloom?
No. Pansies do not reseed. But if you want a similar looking flower and it is also related to the pansy, Violas, or the nickname used, Johnny Jump-ups. I plant more and more every year. They will reseed themselves and will start springing up everywhere. Mine tend to come up in my rock gardens, and walkways, and they just continue reseeding themselves and will generally be the last flowers to go to sleep before winter comes. It generally takes several hard frosts before they finally decide to sleep for the winter. And they are the first ones to pop up in the spring.

They look exactly like a pansy but not as big and don't have as many colors to choose from, but they do have a lovely scent to them. I always look forward to their arrival every spring.
Reply:Pansies are an annual. Some may come back if you didnt cut them down in the fall and by chance they did reseed. Pansy seed is very small but they will reseed. Dont count on it though. Go buy a flat of pansies. If they did reseed, they may bloom just a bit earlier than when you put them in. They are very hardy and frost resistant. Dont depend on reseeding though.
Reply:YES PANSY'S RESEED AND COME BACK.WHEN THEY START GETTING LEGGY,TRIM THEM BACK,AND IN A COUPLE WEEKS THEY WILL BLOOM AGAIN,AND LOOK BUSHY AND HEALTHY. THEY DON'T LIKE THE HOT SUN. PARTIAL SHADE IS BEST FOR THEM.THEY LIKE LOTS OF WATER AND GOOD DRAINAGE. WHEN YOU DEAD HEAD THEM PUT THE DEAD FLOWER NEXT TO THE PLANT ITSELF,AND IT WILL GROW NEW PLANTS FOR YOU.DEAD HEADING THEM IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THEM BLOOMING

How long will Pansies live in the Woodlands Texas??

I bought 2 pansies at Walmart for $1.00 each they are blooming. How long will they live and will they get bigger and will they last all winter and spring? I planted them in the garden in my back yard near an oak tree.

How long will Pansies live in the Woodlands Texas??
They typically last all winter and most of the spring. We just finished planting ours for this year.

We live in East Texas.
Reply:They will live in light snow as well..as long as it isnt for a prolonged period..but to remember ..pansies do not like wet feet..do not overwater..and they do not like too much nitrogen either..so lay off the miracle grow...
Reply:Hi:

You are in a climate where Pansies last all winter. They are annuals and will die off when the warmer weather returns. They do like sun so as long as they get some sunlight during the day near the Oak Tree.

Take a look at my annual photo gallery page of the website. It gives you a brief description of the Pansy. I will also link you to my site map so you can browse through the different sections and see if there is any other information you would need for any landscape project you may have in the future.

Good luck with your Pansies and if you need any other suggestions or advice, feel free to contact me. Have a great day!

Reply:I live in Fort Worth and plant Pansies every year around this time of year. They will last into the Spring. I would suggest however, plucking off any new buds or flowers that grow for the next couple of weeks. I know that sounds odd but it makes the plant put its energy into the root system and in producing more leafs which will give the plant more longevity and cause it to grow larger, giving you more flowers with brighter colors. Trust me, it works!

Planting pansy's?

how do you do germination?

whats next after germination?

plant food?

do they need direct sun or?

can they be planted in august anyway?

any maintainence?

how much water?

THANKS!!!

Planting pansy's?
True pansies can weather temperatures in the single digits and bounce back after the weather warms. But they can be that strong and resourceful only if they've had a chance to get a good footing before cold weather hits. For best results, plant pansies when the soil temperature is between 45 and 65 degrees F. Soil temperatures below 45 degrees at planting time results in inactive roots, stunted plants, and little or no flowering. But if you plant too early--when the soil is above 65 degrees--you'll wind up with leggy plants, yellowish leaves and few flowers. leggy plants, yellowish leaves and few flowers. Pansies planted then are also more susceptible to frost.

Give pansies what they want--well-drained, rich soil in a sunny to partly shady location. Amend the soil with a little finished compost or rotted manure. To ensure good drainage and to help them stand out a bit more in your design, raise the planting bed by a few inches.

http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/gl_seasonal_fal...

You will probably need to start your own seeds, since plants usually aren't available at this time of year. Avoid using fertilizers containing high amounts of slow-release ammoniacal nitrogen. "High rates of ammoniacal nitrogen will cause pansy stems to stretch and become succulent during the warm fall weather. This weakens the plants and makes them more susceptible to winter injury. Ammoniacal nitrogen also is slow to be absorbed by the plants during the winter months when soil temperatures drop below 45 degrees F. Pansies can starve during the winter months even though the soil contains high amounts of ammoniacal nitrogen....

A thorough drenching of the soil at transplant with 150 ppm of a soluble greenhouse fertilizer such as 20-10-20 will work well for the first weeks of September and October. Avoid high rates of nitrogen during September and later in April and May.."

http://pubs.caes.uga.edu/caespubs/hortic...

Water plants well %26amp; apply pine straw 2-4 inches thick to protect pansys from freeze injury.

Good luck! Hope this helps.

Are pansies in season during the month of June in the Nashville, TN area?

I wanted to use little potted pansies as centerpieces for my wedding reception and didnt know if I could find any in June.

Are pansies in season during the month of June in the Nashville, TN area?
no they are not, but they are extremely easy to grow from seed in the pots you want to display them in just keep them out of extreme heat
Reply:I think that in a normal year, they'd be past their prime, if still alive at all. It gets a little too warm for pansies there that time of year...

you could try to raise them from seed???
Reply:Pansies are a cool season annual. In most milder climates they can be obtained as early as September, usually in October, and will last until it starts getting warm in Spring. Usually by the end of April they start fizzling out, getting leggy, or wilting down. They may last into the beginning of May if the weather stays cool, but not much past that. Any random Pansies you find after that are exceptions and usually a late germinated seedling not yet in its prime. But it won't last into the heat either.

Why did my winter pansies die?

I recently planted about 20 winter pansies in window boxes, which had previously contained marigolds. Despite the mild weather, and ensuring that they were not allowed to totally dry out, only 4 have survived. Could it be that the previous flowers somehow affected the new ones?

Why did my winter pansies die?
there is a disease called pansy sickness, you need to change the compost, viruses build up in the soil.
Reply:i pissed on them whilst walking home after a night out ;-)
Reply:its been very wet and this will effect them the soil may be water logged at the bottom and this will cause them to die or it could be bad plants or insect or slug problem as it is warm the flies ect haven't died dont know about the marigolds to be sure change soil if you can or feed the soil
Reply:Probably more likely that you have some desease in the soil ... or lack of nutrients ... throw away the old compost and replace with new .... and feed them regularly too
Reply:It could have been that they were planted too deeply. In SoCal(where I am) Pansies get "crown rot". That's when the plant has totally wilted and you can just pick it up, with the root ball detached. Pansies must be planted a little high, that is with their rootball a little bit above the soil(ground or pot). I adore Pansies but I won't even plant them in the ground anymore. If you want to try again, just make sure you plant them high :-)
Reply:They didn't die; they're just wintering in San Francisco and South Beach.
Reply:Are you sure the pansies didnt get AIDS?????
Reply:did you use good soil? plant food? watered daily? good amount of sun? (not TOO much)
Reply:They might not be dead, just dormant. They often reseed themselves but of course will not be showing their faces until it gets a bit sunnier and the weather is not quite as wet. They are cool season annuals, but if your soil is good, they will survive. Did you feed them or water them appropiately? Lots of annuals can be planted together; this should not affect the outcome unles you marigolds were diseased in some way.
Reply:If it is a annular flower it will die off.Have to replace next season.Winter one have to be protected from the cold.Merigold would'nt affect them.Did you know if you leave the marigold buds in the dirt they will reproduce fron the sniped off flower when they die.Just pick off and throw anywhere and they grow,i know cause i hace hundreds.Wait and see if pansy is dead.

How often do I need to water pansies?

And can I use Ortho Bug-B-Gone spray to keep the bugs away? I don't want to kill the flowers.

How often do I need to water pansies?
I only water mine when the dirt is starting to dry up. Keep it moist, but don't drowned it because it will make the roots rot. I don't spray anything on mine. They bugs don't bother them. I would read on the bottle to see what it says. If you decide to spray just spray one flower to test. This way if it does kill them it will only kill one and not all of them.
Reply:In a pot, every other day --unless it's super hot %26amp; sunny. In the ground, 2x a week. Bugs don't really bother pansies--or they don't here. Clip off the dead flowers to make them keep blooming.
Reply:Spray is fine.

I only water the pansies when they look like they need it. It all depends on where they are. Above ground - more, b/c the roots get hotter there. It's much cooler down in the soil.

But the REAL question is...where do you live??

I'm asking b/c pansies are only fall/winter/spring annuals. They do not take heat, and get pulled up and replaced w/ summer annuals. For example, here in Atl., all pansies have pretty much been pulled up, thrown away, and replaced. They have 'insulated cells' - it would be like us standing on asphalt in the summer wearing a coat! So, if it's warm where you are, then watering might not save them. It might be time to move on! Good luck!
Reply:When ever the soil feels dry or if they appear wilted or it hasn't rained for a week or so. Plants need bugs to pollinate, so if it were me I wouldn't spray them with anything. I don't like to use chemicals on my plants for any reason. There are natural ways of keeping bugs away. Check out places like gardensalive.com or garden.org for more info. If you still want to spray something, read the directions and/or ask your local garden center.

How do I take care of my pansies?

I've had them planted now for a week. I'm not sure how often I'm supposed to water them. I've been watering them every morning, but I'm not sure if this is good or bad. Any other basic care tips would be great. These were given to me as a gift and I don't know the first thing about gardening.

How do I take care of my pansies?
I'VE HAD PANSIES, AND THEY ARE PRETTY FORGIVING. THEY LIKE THE COOL WEATHER. THEY DO GOOD IN ALMOST BY THEMSELF, JUSTWATER THEM WHEN THEY ARE DRY. AND WHEN THEY GET LEGGY PINCH THEM.
Reply:I've had good luck with pansies. just water them when they are dry. i've picked off the dead flowers off of the plants and mine seemed to grow really nice and big. hope it helps
Reply:You know a lot. You planted, you are watering, perfect! Now get some miracle gro from walmart and follow the directions (1 Tbs/gal water) and feed them every 2 weeks. Enjoy!

Stop and smell the pansies, they do have a clean soft scent.

Uses & meaning of the ff: rose,morning-glory,tulip,sunfl... & carnation.?

hi, ill be using this questions to my students the importance, uses and meaning of the flowers...like rose,morning-glory,cosmos,carnation,lily... chrysanthemum, dandelion and pansy. thanks!

Uses %26amp; meaning of the ff: rose,morning-glory,tulip,sunfl... %26amp; carnation.?
Besides the obvious uses that most flowers have in common (decoration and production of perfumes), some may be used for food and/or drink production (e.g. sunflowers, dandilions). Others may have medical uses (for example, a derivitive of foxglove is digitalis, used to treat heart disorders.)

How do I keep my dog from digging up my newly planted pansies?

She is a small daschund, and likes the smell of the bone meal I used as fertilizer.

How do I keep my dog from digging up my newly planted pansies?
Sprinkle the ground liberally with ground up, dried, hot peppers. This should stop her and it won't hurt your flowers.
Reply:You won't stop this behavior easily. A daschund's main purpose in life used to be to scurry into holes and tunnels to hunt rodents and small animals, even badgers. You can use light discipline, scolding her or giving harsh tones to your voice to enforce that you won't tolerate bad behavior. However, since daschunds are proud little dogs and you have to be careful of how you handle them, I recommend using a bitter spray that is sold in most pet stores (or for sure online...). It is made from harmless materials, usually comes in a scent like green apple, and if sprayed heavily around your plants, may very well deter your busy little buddy from unearthing your flowers. Good luck!
Reply:When planting put some chicken/mesh wire about 1/2" under the surface of the soil (put the plants in the holes). As soon as Fido starts digging he'll run into this barrier - and probably look for another spot in the yard to dig up ;-)

What winter flowers can I plant in beds other than pansies?

I and that would be for Texas winters, which obviously aren't as harsh. But I'm looking for something else, other than pansies, which everyone does...Thanks!

What winter flowers can I plant in beds other than pansies?
I usually do the ornamental cabbages. they don't bloom but look great. You aren't going to find a lot that actually flower. Try some small fur trees(cypress, etc) They offer great foliage and then in the summer you can plant them in the ground.

Why are my pansies turning yellow/brown towards the bottom?

The color of the actual flower seems to be fine and so does the greenery towards the top... but towards the bottom closest to the soil they are slowly turning a yellowish brown color. Is there anything I can do to save them or prevent this? Thank You!

Why are my pansies turning yellow/brown towards the bottom?
Pansies are the most happy during the spring and fall. They typically do not do well during the summer months, although they can do okay during the summer in cool climates, and / or shady areas. I'm not sure what zone you are in, but most in most of the US, they just don't like summertime. I would suggest replacing them with a different type of annual.

When we did landscaping in PA, pansies were the first to go in, as they liked the cooler weather, (as early as March), but were replaced with "summer" annuals sometime in May or June.

If you really want to keep them, trim them back and make sure they are watered. They will look nice again when the weather turns cooler.

Good luck!
Reply:Pansies are annuals that usually begin to die out around this time. Just replace them with petunias for right now. Some people are fortunate enough to keep some of their annual plants alive all year, but pansies usually enjoy the early early spring, before it gets hot.

I'm sorry to hear you are losing them but that just happens. I try to buy all perennial plants because I can't stand to see them die. Isn't that silly.

How do I know what 1/8 in. of soil is?

About as thick as a penny

just plant them very shallow in the soil

drop the seeds on top of the soil surface

then drop a fine layer of soil on top of the seeds

then lightly press the soil down

LIGHTLY is the key word here

You can pick up packages of tulips at Lowes or Home depot in September in our area. Or you can buy them online at Dutch Gardenshttp://www.dutchgardens.com/on/demandwar... or Colorblends http://www.colorblends.com/Blends. You will save money if you buy them at Lowes or Home Depot but the dutch growers have more variety and will send them at the proper planting time for you area. (Tulips need some winter chill, I put mine in the refrigerator til late Dec in Northern CA)

Pansies are so much fun! The smaller flowered ones hold up to rainy weather better than the big ones. They are quite easy to grow. As for making a flower bed, decide what shape bed you want (I use a garden hose) then outline it with "Mark-it" (available at hardware stores) Dig about 6 inches deep. You will probably have to add some manure or compost to enrich and lighten the soil. If it's sandy soil manure and compost help it too!
Reply:Well if your a beginner I would definitely try daylilies for sunny areas and hostas for shady areas and they are low maintenance and daylilies come in every color imaginable. If you want to grow tulips you have to plant them in the fall. I have about 500 tulips blooming in my front yard and they are gorgeous all mixed colors. lowes and home depot have tulips but the specialty web sites are the best when it comes to variety. They have any color under the sun. Colorblends.com is a great one. pansies I believe are an annual? never bought them so not sure but I think they are, and if they are that means they dont come back every year, where daylilies and hostas and anything called a perennial does. If you want a garden full of color pretty much all year round springblooming flowers are tulips, daffodils, and phlox. Summer is way to many to list you just have to look and see what the flower needs are-sun, shade etc... fall is usually mums and a few other things. web sites I have bought from and trust are colorblends.com for tulips and springhillnursery, com, michiganbulb.com and autumnridgenursery.com carry pretty much any flower you can think of. autumnridgenursery.com has some of the most beautiful roses I have ever seen ir your interested in rosebushes. Good luck!
Reply:~till up the dirt---make sure its not really bad clay.~you may want some fertilizer.

~before you buy the plants...check their lables and see what month they should be planted in and see their sun/shade/water needs---so you know where to put them.

~when you plant the tulip bulbs they should be about 1-2 inches under.

~be very sure to completely cover the 'dirt/root ball," of the pansies, with dirt---about 1 inch deep.

~when planting plants the have been in pot---break up the bottom of the root ball a bit to help the roots grow.

~most plant in hot summer need water everyday---evening or morning is best for watering.

hope this helped! :-)

Is argina aa good name for some named arjun whos a pansy on the ball court?

yes or you can say "mar ja na" means drop dead in hindi (arjun sounds indian thus hindi) or if you want to be really mean, remind him that white guys can jump higher than sand crickits (racial slur) and thats a reach etc I know this sounds real D!ck but I can say all that coz I'm kinda Indian decent

Is argina aa good name for some named arjun whos a pansy on the ball court?
What does this have to do with anything?

What is eating my pansies and how do I get rid of them?

Something is eating my pansies, usually the ones close to the ground, right down to the stem!! What is it and what should I use to get rid of it? I don't think it's aphids.

What is eating my pansies and how do I get rid of them?
This would be something to ask a local (as local as possible) gardener, as pests and other flower-eaters vary quite widely from place to place, and you give no location. Perhaps try a nearby nursery, or where you bought the pansies.
Reply:I'm surprised your pansies are still growing well. they usually like much cooler to cold weather. you sure they arent just dying in this summer heat?

Pansy care?

I have never planted pansies - any special care for them? Do I pinch off the dead blooms like other flowers.

Pansy care?
Pansies like cool weather and hot sun will make plants slow down. So when weather warms up I always put my pots of pansies in shaded spot. Once they are done blooming it doesn't hurt to trim them back to nice little base and let them replenish themselves and you will have blooms all summer and fall. I fertilize about every 6 wks w/Miracle Grow.

Don't overwater or leaves with start turning yellow.

Good luck!
Reply:not only should you pinch off the dead ones but, the more you pick the more you'll have.

so pick the flowers as well and put them in little vases and enjoy them in the house.

of course when you pick don't pick everything off the plant. Leave some outside as well!! (lol)

every few days refresh your indoor ones and you will find that the outside display gets bigger and better.

enjoy
Reply:pansy's and johnny jump ups are such happy flowers I hope you noticed that they always have a smile on the flower very easy flower to grow I agree with everyone and there comments but 1 more important thing when you are deadheading(pinching back the flowers that have started dieing ) watch for little pods when the flower starts dieing they are not on every stem but pull this pods off they are full of seeds if you let them dry and throw them around you will have great little plants all over the place. These plants self seed like crazy.
Reply:you will get more blooms if you pinch no special care just water
Reply:Deadhead and fertilize with blood meal. Pansies LOVE blood meal.

If you pass on a hook up do you stand to look like a pansy?

Dont get me wrong the girl is attractive but it's not my thing to do one night stands. Now, I cant even get the time of day. Was it a spur of the moment or does she think I'm a pansy? Yeah, I told her about my feeling (second strike?).

If you pass on a hook up do you stand to look like a pansy?
It doesn't make you look like a pansy. Of course, someone, even her, may tell you and/or others that it does.

Faery beleivers: Why do you choose to beleive in winged pansy Sprites rather than traditional godlike Fae?

You know, the goblins, elves, shide, banshees, etc. that woill smite you if you make them mad and reward you if you honor them. Trust me, theres no winged pansy in real mythology surrounding the Fae.

Faery beleivers: Why do you choose to beleive in winged pansy Sprites rather than traditional godlike Fae?
You forgot to refer to the Seelie Court as well as the Unseelie.

And, there are many different kinds of Fae. The ones that people refer to as fairies are not at all like the real thing, I agree. But they are also not all evil creatures out to get mankind.. let's present a balanced view, please.

Who thinks Tom Brady is a pansy?

I used to like him, but i was watchin him last week and every time he got hit he got up and started whinning or looking at the refs. Its really annoying and he needs to suck it up. Hes like the least hit qb in the nation

Who thinks Tom Brady is a pansy?
A pansy is a nice word for brady. I can't wait untill someone knocks him damn head off his shoulders. I can't stand his whiney @$$
Reply:He is used 2 getting roughing the quarterback calls because as soon as some1 breathes on him he gets it. last year in the Playoffs Jets Linebacker Victor Hobson hit Brady as he was throwing th ball and Hobson landed on Brady when both fell so they called it roughing then this year Wilfork i think took Clemens nd threw him to the floor AFTER he threw the ball nd it wasnt called. Brady always gets it thats why he looks around

Can I grow field pansies as regular flowers?

So I found this bush of some kind of pansy, and I looked it up and I believe it to be a field pansy... Can I grow it in my flower bed or is it still a weed? Thanks,

-ur not so green thumbed person

Can I grow field pansies as regular flowers?
You can grow field pansies in a flower bed, if you don't mind them spreading.

It's considered a weed by people who don't want it taking over their gardens...which is something it's good at doing. Seed capsules split open in dry weather, throwing large numbers of small brown seeds some distance from the plant. Each seed capsule contains around 75 seeds and a plant may produce 1,500 to 2,500 seeds.

http://www.gardenorganic.org.uk/organicw...

You can also just let them grow in their own space ...where you wouldn't have to keep them in check... since they do look nice. I was fascinated to see volunteer field pansies growing beautifully in drifts in a wooded area that I had spread leaves around (because I didn't want to mow around the huge roots of the trees). Field pansies are useful, too, since they have edible leaves and flowers which are rich in vitamin C.

Thought you'd like some photos of field pansies:

Good luck!!! Hope this helps.
Reply:a whole bunch of pansies just "showed up" at my house last year and i had like 20 plants.. i dug them all up and planted them in my garden and just places they can grow wildly. now theres a lot of them.. and they've created new colours. theres a lot of pansies but if you dont mind having a lot, transplant them.. there easy and none of mine died from the transplant.

What I'm saying is this: saying you admire Hillary for her drive or ambition is like saying you admire an anorexic for adhering so completely to a diet. Neither one has a choice. Even if Hillary consciously wanted to stop, she couldn't.

When Al Gore lost the Presidency, he gained about 60 pounds. Hillary will literally lose her grip on reality and probably will enter a psych ward. Hillary is fighting so hard because her entire ego is invested in this. If she loses, she won't just gain 60 pounds like Gore, she will lose her mind. Her massive ego simply won't be able to cope.

Who else thinks Thomas Vanek is a pansy?

i am a sabres fan and i HATE watching him, he has so many turnovers and avoids contact all the time. Also he tries fancy moves but does not come through ever, especially on shootouts.

Who else thinks Thomas Vanek is a pansy?
I'm a Sabres fan too. Vanek isn't the size of Dainius Zubrus, so he's not gonna chase after someone. He does try fancy moves, and if you don't try something, you won't get as many goals. What you didn't mention is Vanek is one of the best players in the NHL in front of the goalie, so, who cares how he plays. He has like 34 goals, he's good. He's doesn't know how to deke. And for the fancy moves part, you see TONS of players who never do anything fancy try to do something. The more you try it, the better you get at it. The better you get at it, the better you become. The better you become at it, the more you can do it. The more you can do it, the more you can have the momentum to deke out the goalie. Plus Vanek leads the lead with a +/- of 40.. 40. Over who? NICKLAS LIDSTROM. When you are ahead of Nicklas Lidstrom in +/-, you can't EVER be doing bad, because Lidstrom is the best defensive player in the league, along with Pronger in my opinion.
Reply:Abraham Lincoln
Reply:Does it really matter if they are pansies or not as long as we are winning......WTF Sabres fans usually have alot more pride in there team
Reply:I disagree. He is our leading goal scorer and he has improved a lot from last year being on the bench for most of the playoffs. Yes he tries all these moves...but so does Max doesnt he...and no one hates Max. You cant do the same move EVERY time in a shootout and expect to score. Once he actually starts getting his moves together..hell score and no one will complain anymore. it just takes time hes still a young player being a 2nd year player on the NHL.
Reply:If your a real Sabres fan you would not have said that. He's a pansy? Are you kidding? He tries to make plays, and most of the time he does, like Stafford's first goal last night, he totally set that one up for him. And if you haven't noticed, the past few games he's been more physical, especially when forechecking. But his job isn't to run around and hit people, it's to score goals and make plays...which is exactly why he leads the team in goals and leads the NHL in plus/minus. Yeah a forward leads the NHL in plus/minus...and you call him a pansy? Good luck with that...
Reply:yeah! he stinks!
Reply:I think Afinogenov was worse in his younger days . . . man that guy used to drive me crazy! Right now my least favorite guy on the team is Ryan Miller; I'm just not sold on him like most other people are. I want Marty back!
Reply:Yes he is, but to be fair, I think that the whole roster is full of pansies. Not trying to be funny either. They are all soft with maybe the exception of Peters but hey, that's what you get when your team is chalked full of midgets.
Reply:Vanek is looking at many of his teamates get injured being physical. so he may have the mind set if he stays layed back and like a pansy, he may not get hurt. That how i started out playing in High School, then i bulked up and didnt give a crap about getting hurt, and just checked everyone I could.
Reply:i love vanek. he's our leading goal scorer. that kind of shows you that he is NOT a pansy. and people are just jealous cause our "midget" guys ,as one put it, can move faster than their big guys.
Reply:your point is? could you do better?he would not have made them team if he couldn't be a team player!
Reply:He may be but that is his game. He is not supposed to be tough. That is why Mair and Peters are on the roster. His job is to finish and he has done that. They are not paying him to be tough, because if they were, he would be sent to Rochester.

How Much Soil Do I put In The Flower Pot When Growing Pansies From Seeds?

I have some pansy seeds, that I want to grow into pansies;

Should I fill the entire pot with soil, with the seed underneath?

Or should I put only 1/8- 1/4 inch of soil in the flower pot with the seed underneath?

I just worry that if I fill the entire pot with soil with the seed underneath that the seed might not be able to sprout all the way to the top.

I took one pansy hit of a joint tuesday?

then somebody told on us that we were in the car. and now im suspended and going to court next week. will this show up on a drug test if they give me one? (NOTE: I AM VERY THIN AND THE ADMINISTRATION AT MY SCHOOL AND THE LAW DO NOT KNOW I SMOKED. THE TEST WILL DETERMINE!!)

I took one pansy hit of a joint tuesday?
whatever happened to those No Snitching tshirts? that's not cool dude. THC usually takes a few days to pass in the system if you very rarely do it and up to a month for those that do it all the time. If they do a urinalysis and you don't do it often, you might be fine. But they can still detect it in you hair if they test that way. Hair folicle tests are more expensive so they probably won't do that. If you took such a small "pansy" hit and don't smoke often then I'd do all the precautions just in case... cranberry juice, vinegar, etc. THC stores in your fat so I'd hit that treadmill for a while each day.

Next time, just say no to drugs or at least, DON'T DO IT AT SCHOOL! GOOD LUCK MAN!
Reply:Drink plenty of water to flush your system. I don't think it will show up but I'm just guessing. On the day you go for your test, try to get up early and void (urinate) as much as possible before you go, drinking lots of water so your urine specimen will be as diluted as possible. Also, don't work out or do any strenuous activities before your test. Good luck, and I hope this was a lesson learned! Be careful who your friends are, because your friends can drag you down.
Reply:yes it will show up even if it was a half a toke! if it was inhaled it will be in your system! I have heard of peole coming up positive of drug test just from catching a contact thru being in the same room!

Flower (pansy) problems?

I bought a pot of Pansies from WalMart in early May. Those stupid things won't stay alive! I water them daily, but it looks like they're as dead as a doornail.

A friend of mine (who is slighly more knowledgable about flowers than I am -- and that's not much! LOL) said that they really hate a ton of sun and hot weather, and they'll get better in the fall, as long as I keep taking care of them like I'm doing now, even though they look pretty pathetic.

Is this true? or should I give up the fight?

Flower (pansy) problems?
Pansy's do best in the spring and can tolerate light frost. We plant them in our window boxes for early spring color in late March. By June the foliage, as you have noticed is a little worse for the wear. We pull them out, put them in the compost pile and plant the next flowers, this year impatiens and sweet potato vines.

Good Luck and Happy Gardening from Cathy and Neal!
Reply:Pansies don't like heat. The cooler temps that you get with rain help them think it's still springtime.

I use them in my beds in spring and fall for color, knowing that the heat is gonna take them down by June.

They do stay with me all winter where I live though.. that's a plus!
Reply:They're a spring/fall flower, love. In Ohio, many don't even return in the fall.

Just deadhead the dying blossoms and pinch off the dried stem and leaf parts so the ones left living are getting all the nutrition instead of sharing it with the dying parts. You might also want to bring them in while you're at work and set them out on your deck in the evening hours so they're not getting the harsher heat of the day.
Reply:return them - they are defective...
Reply:Too much water
Reply:Pansies are annual flowers, meaning they need to be replanted each year. They are also cold hardy plants , they will trade the beach for the mountains anytime. Struggle as you may, your likelihood of keeping them alive to their next season is slim. When you plant them in the fall, keep this tidbit of information handy: They are one of the few plants that bloom on nitrogen. Also edible, some finer restaurants will use the blooms in salads.
Reply:Pansies will get alittle sick in real hot weather and yes you might be overwatering them. Mind are in a semi shade spot. Full sun in the morning and alittle bit of shade in the mid to late day sun. They do not like to be in real damp conditions and can tolerate some dryness. I would cut back on the watering alot, maybe only twice a week. Set them where they are shaded alittle more and if you remove the spent blooms with few of the leaves also this will promote more blooms and growth. It is hard to say if they have pasted their limit but I would say that since you noticed a few more blooms that they are still salvageable. Most of the time they will stop producing as many blooms when they weather gets too hot but yes they normally will give you another show when the evenings start to get cooler again and they should last up to late fall. I have had them bloom with snow around them in the early spring and late fall here in the NC mtns.

You might also want to check to make sure that the aphids are not sucking the sap out of them. If you see small green, red or gray insects that cluster near tops of shoots, hose them off with a water hose or spray with a solution of water mixed with alittle dish soap to kill them. This might possibly be the problem also. But I would cut back on the water too.

I hope this helps. Good luck and don't give up. You can get that green thumb with practice.

~smiles~

Reply:I'm from Kentucky and I have pansies. Even though it is really hot and they are in full sun, they're doing great. Try only watering them every other day. In the meantime pinch off the deadheads so the others that are blooming will get more nutrition. I say don't give up the fight. Keep trying.
Reply:Pansies are members of the viola family, which includes violets. They like it cool, so they thrive in the spring and fall. They can even winter over in some places in the south where the freezes are not too severe.

Now, another problem is that you purchased these plants from Walmart. Who knows where they came from. I would suggest supporting a local greenhouse in the future, as long as the price differential is not so great.
Reply:They do better in the ground, mulch will also help keep the roots cooler. Pick a nice shady spot, if they make it you will have Pansy's again in the fall. Sometimes they can survive a mild winter too.
Reply:1. She's right. Pansies and Violas are generally Spring and Fall flowers. Typically, they're planted in the Fall for a little color, overwinter, and then come back strong in the Spring. But they are treated more like Annuals in that most gardeners remove them over the summer and replant. Pansies and Violas do not like hot weather - period. They hate it.

2. And do watch the water. More plants drown than dry up.

3. If this is in a bed, you can add Marigolds or Impatiens in between the Pansies for color. They'll die back later in the seaon and next Spring your Pansies will be bigger and stronger than ever.
Reply:Contrary to prior comment - I've bought a lot of plants at WalMart (they have a great selection and great prices) and they're all thriving.

Pansies definitely don't like the heat. Whereabouts do you live? Do you have them still in the pot or did you plant them in your yard? Can you move the pot or replant them in a different area of your yard where they'll get less sunlight? Mine are on my deck so they get sun in the morning only - and they're thriving. I have noticed, though, that if it's particularly warm (not all that often here in WA) they get a bit wilted.

Why wouldn't Draco Malfoy marry Pansy Parkinson?

Draco is always with Pansy and took her to the Yule Ball he marry Astoria

Why wouldn't Draco Malfoy marry Pansy Parkinson?
Well since the previous books, its always been Pansy who's all over Draco, she worships him and seems so proud to be around him. Malfoy on the other hand, looks like he only sees Parkinson as his 'groupie', he just enjoys the attention she gave him (being an arrogant pureblood he is), but it definitely doesn't seem like he respects her in any way.

And after reading HP7, you realize that he's not all bad lol

He cried in the bathroom, he doesnt wanna be a deaeth eater, he couldnt kill Dumbledore, he acts the way he does because of all the presure under his father who forced him to be a death eater and if he had to do what Voldemort told him to because his family's life are at stakes.

So he was evil for good reasons, hes been through so much.

The last book gave us new perspective about Malfoy. He's a good person after all.

Bad boys might like to have fun but in the end they look for a woman they can match and respect, not some groupie =%26gt;
Reply:Because JK Rowling said so.
Reply:I second every answer. (As long as its appropiate)
Reply:Malfoy changed a little bit. Not totally but just enough to not be totally evil. Pansy on the other hand was evil to the core.
Reply:because j.k.rowling doesn't like her
Reply:I think after Harry saved him in DH, Draco had an epiphany. He realized that she didn't really care about him, she only cared about where he could take her and what he could do for her. Draco could now see that he deserved someone with more caring tendencies and that's what he wanted in a wife. What i want to know is, who he did end up marrying.
Reply:I don't think that Draco liked Pansy, she was probably there just for the sake of him having a gf in the book, or a female figure friend, like Harry does with Hermione.
Reply:Pansy was (to be blunt) an obsessive idiot. She got a bit annoying to Draco as she really only seemed to care about his wealth and status in the wizarding community. I suppose Malfoy wanted someone who wanted at least a bit of a heart or soul.
Reply:Draco never liked Pansy, he only liked the attention he was getting from her

Why are the DEMOCRATS such UN Pansy Appeasers?

Liberals underestimate what can be accomplished by courage and resolve because these are not qualities they possess. Liberalism is a can't cant. Every task is too difficult. Every danger is too great. This is why liberals don't oppose dictators until after they've been deposed by the likes of Reagan and Bush. While tyrants are still in power, liberal lips stay firmly glued to their backsides.

Want to Marry your Dog, Live Free of the Government %26amp; have your working neighbor's wealth redistributed to you? Kick the can of global terrorism down the street for someone else to fix? The Democrats are your party!

Want to bring down Communism, The Baath Party %26amp; The Taliban. The Republicans are your Party

Nail on the head dude, now waiting for the whine cause here comes the democraps!

Reply:Liberals take their freedom and their country for granted. They get in their car, head down to the grocery store, buy a six-pack and some chicken, rent a movie, turn on the A.C., relax in a safe home, all the while moaning about how evil we are.

I love this country!
Reply:Gosh, I can't even imagine why you'd ask such a question. If liberals want to marry their dogs, they're capable of anything, including the horrible crime of thinking that diplomacy and international cooperation are often ways to avoid unnecessary and unjust wars.
Reply:counter point: you're wrong

FRD was a democrat, he didn't back down from dictators. So I can prove my counter point, can you prove even one of the close-minded sad little generalizations you made?
Reply:Yeah, we couldn't bring down communism after ten years of fighting in Vietnam, now we'll just buy them out with our money and turn them into capitalists. Saddam's capture doomed the Baath party and the Taliban last I checked, aren't dead. We're having a global war on terror, yet anyone can walk across our borders. Dare I say President Reagan lost his resolve in Beirut? Oh how quickly we forget.

Anyway, to answer your question. It's all Clinton's fault. Next question.

Reply:Holy Crap you are delusional. It would take a therapist and a year for me to start to crack your paranoid delusions.. maybe even some stout medication. And I don't mean for this to sound like I am trying to personally attack you.. it is just that we (democrats) are not out to get you, we are not out to destroy the nation, and we do not support terrorism. If you truly want to understand the democratic thought process a little better (notice I didn't say accept, I said understand) then email me a question or a topic and I'll explain my views and why I feel others in my party feel how they do. Otherwise, please.. stop with these ridiculous questions.
Reply:Why are the far right Republicans such unilateral, oligarchic war mongers? How many global terrorists can you kill before you become a global terrorist? I'd like to think we're getting past the days when we can simply define our enemies as inhuman based on color, geography or religion. Quick prediction. We can kill Muslim terrorists 'til we run out of bullets. We won't stop them that way. We'll only create more. Perhaps that's the neocon agenda.

A race to prove who is better and who can win? It's all about strategy.

Pansy growth. Not growing, but not dying.?

I've got a whole lotta pansies growing, and all of them either seem to have stunted growth, or just grow really slowly. I've got one dim grow light set on 24 hours and the normal grow light on an 18 hour cycle. They're grown in peat pellets, but have been replanted into bigger pots. They're about 2 to 3 inches tall so far, and they're not dying or yellowing, but they seem to wither not grow, or just grow really slowly. Is this normal? If not, is it fixable? And how?

Pansy growth. Not growing, but not dying.?
it could be that because you have replanted them they are now growing more roots as apposed to growing above ground for the moment. As long as they are getting lots of light, water and nutrients from the soil them i would just wait and see what happens. Good luck to you.
Reply:If they are 2 - 3 inches tall, they probably have two sets of leaves on each plant. If this is the case, they are ready to transplant and should be outside.

Good Luck!!
Reply:Get them outside.

How about the shinning star for the liberals; Kerry trying to cut and run in Iraq; Is he a pansy or what?

He has been to war, and knows what war is. Do you? Neither does your shinning star, you know the idiot that was appointed to occupy the white house. Then rigged the second election. Real hero that didn't even finish his commitment to the air guard. Cut and run is just some more repuglican rhetoric for there is more money to be made from this war and we do not care how many young people die for no reason.

How about the shinning star for the liberals; Kerry trying to cut and run in Iraq; Is he a pansy or what?
A pansy that went to Vietnam while our president sat on friendly soil hiding behind daddy...smart move (for him), he would have gotten his dumb *** killed...

Farly- tired argument...if our troops are rapists and baby-killers, then they are...the truth isn't always pretty, but that doesn't make it less true...doesn't mean we shouldn't support them, just that if we're going to preach about how great we are, we should conduct ourselves in such a way as to prove it...
Reply:No, and unless your in the Army right now, you are.
Reply:Kerry couldn't buy a clue, not even with his wife's billions of dollars. Sure, he went to Vietnam. And then he came back and called our troops rapists and baby killers. Classy dude.
Reply:"Cut and run." Nice use of the Republican talking points.
Reply:You obviously didn't listen to what Kerry has said. He hasn't asked for us to just up and leave. What he is asking for is a date in which we turn over all security operations to Iraqi security forces. The US won't leave even then, but it will get people in Iraq to establish an effort to get the resources in place.
Reply:The simple slogan republicans.
Reply:You're a pansy. Look at your Avatar for crissakes.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED ....sort of.
Reply:Yeah or statements from Bush saying "when they stand up we will stand down." What a cut and runner, we should be there forever, infact we should make Iraq another state. Lets all hear it for the state of Iraq.
Reply:Why are you not over in iraq? you seem to know it ALL!!
Reply:John Kerry is a political opportunist. I live in Massachusetts so I've seen his act for a long, long time. He's been on both sides of every issue since he came home from Vietnam.
Reply:bla bla bla
Reply:yes he is. just like clinton who is a draft dodger.
Reply:This is what John Kerry does best. He was not the hero in Vietnam he and the democrats make him out to be. He has done to the troops in Iraq what he did to the troops in Vietnam, me-lined them. I have absolutely no respect for this man.
Reply:YOU ARE A REAL LIVE MORON.
Reply:He sure is, I mean, he never even saw any action during Vietnam ... oh, you mean the guy who actually WENT to war and has medals to show for it ... oops ...oh you DUHbyans, you kill me ... your never-saw-action President who blasts countries with his eyes closed and you're bashing Kerry? Shame on you ... silly rabbit, tricks are for kids.
Reply:Bottom line is I guess you'll like who you'll like and you'll dislike who you'll dislike. I'm in the minority here I happen to like George Bush and John Kerry makes me want to gag. I think John Kerry has no principles he lives by...he's just for John Kerry and that's what he's always been about...ever since his so called "hero days". Unfortunately I don't think we're ever going to get to a point where there's some great enlightenment where one side or the other is going to see the error of their ways and come around. So sadly we continue to fire off barbs and get frustrated and angry...and the world keeps turning.
Reply:Well, he initially supported the Vietnam Conflict, then called our soldiers baby killers on national television. He initially supported the Iraq war, and now wants to pull all our troops home. A large number of people who served with him contributed to a book "unfit to serve" about him, and his time in Vietnam. None of it was complimentary. Just plain facts people, look between the lines, and draw your opinions about Kerry from what he's done, not what other Libs tell you.
Reply:I think hes a dildo not a pansy.
