Anybody know how to stop cats from peeing in my planter box, they are killing my pansies?

I put a bunch of rocks on the top of the soil (light and small ones so they do not compact your soil)- cats pee there because they like the texture of soil. If you take that away, they will usually stop peeing there.

Who can blame them? I pee on pansies too. There is just something about pansies that brings that out in people and cats.
Reply:I've loaded up pinecones between flowers and that kept cats out. They don't like the spiky kinds, those big ones that are about the size of tangerines.

Find a few pine trees, get a bagful and give those a try.
Reply:Make sure you re-pot the plants with fresh soil so that there are no lingering cat urine odours to tempt them to use them again.

Try putting small pebbles or pine cones on top of the soil. Anything that is uncomfortable under foot, will put them off going there.
Reply:Rocks are a good idea.

Also you could try a hot pepper mixture. Use cayenne or any kind of hot pepper you can get your hands on, mix it with water, and spray it on and around your flowers. It will not hurt your pansies. The cats won't like the smell!

I have also heard that vinegar works, but I don't know the effect it would have on your flowers.
