Why is the United States so paranoid?

We're giving Iran trouble for making nuclear plants used for electricity. No one threw a fit when we made nuclear energy plants. Even the pentagon says they're still 5 years away from being able to make nuclear weapons and we've no evidence that they intend to do so other. The US is getting worried about China's military buildup and harassing them. We're the ones who went around trying to convince the nations how dangerous terrorism is, then we condemn a nation looking to defend itself. Why is this country so paranoid? Is this a racist issue perhaps? Are we afraid of losing power? Why can't we accept what these other countries say at face value until we've reason not to trust them?

P.S. I'd like intellectual answers only please. Not "lol george bush sucks" or "because democrats are pansies".

Why is the United States so paranoid?
The United States feels that those countries are major threats because they support terrorism. The U.S. has been monitoring China and has realized that China's military budget has increased by 17.5% over the last year, Iran supports al-quaida and other terrorist group which Iran is suppyling a ton of weapons and money to, to attack the American soldiers in Iraq.
Reply:The United States has a dual personality; first, we think we are the benevolent big brother, "helping" other countries when they are at war with the "bad guy". But, when the war is over, we get worried about the arms we've given or sold, and put on the pressure to make sure the US stays "in control". The US thinks that no matter what we do, we are right; anyone who could threaten us militarily in any way, has to be wrong, and we find ways to demonize them. The US has a very simplistic point of view; they don't want to share power with anyone, so yes, they are paranoid; yes, they are afraid of losing power; most likely we are racist; and yes, we are distrustful. We think because we are the "good guys" we have the right to create as many nuclear plants, bombs, and weapons as we want AND since we're the "good guys" no one else in the world has the right to question anything we do. I think based on the war in Iraq, the treatment of prisoners in US custody, and the lies about the reasons for the Iraqi war, that the rest of the world views the US as a bully at best, a violent unethical tyrant at worst.
Reply:Becareful what you say, there. Just to note, no one needs nuclear technology to make energy. There are other ways to make energy with out polluting, dumping nuclear waste somewhere in their back yard, and make weapons out of them. Nuclear particles can live a very long time especially when very radioactive like 500 years. That is 500 years of contamination where your food, things we use are and were we live. Radiation can kill a human being. We would not live very long even if we stock up food and create a bomb shelter. Yet, aren't you concerned about another world war which nuclear could be used upon your country or spark a nuclear Holocaust and wipe out the life on this very planet that we know of having life in this so called universe?
Reply:It depends on which statements you want to believe, I suppose. One day it's "America is the GREAT SATAN", and the next they are wanting to be our best nuclear family pals.

You choose!
Reply:it is all a republican ploy.
Reply:why is the world so paranoid? the united states acts out for the fear of foreign interests (and domestic ones) that want it to act and defend, that is why it has been dubbed the 'world police'--without america--europe would be paranoid and would want russia or china to step in to protect it from nuclear jihad, its only more convenient to let america do it because then it doesn't look like your responsible.
