Why do people watch basketball?

I dont understand. There are 10 tall skinny guys who throw a ball in a basket. When they get the slightest tap on the arm or whatever, they complain and its against the rules. If they get slightly shoved, they fall to the ground and complain. Or they lie there because that tiny push hurt them soooo bad. I see it as a real pansy sport with no contact and a lot of whining. Everyone tries to get all pumped up with it but how can you with skinny lanky guys complaining about someone slapping them and then trying to act tough? Why don't people watch a real sport like hockey or football?

Why do people watch basketball?
Basketball these days sucks. It went from a game of skill revolving around team play and shooting (when whites were the majority) to an athletic competition where the only point to is showboat and get yourself in the highlight reels.
Reply:Basketball's a most favored sport by many people. Ever since I watched basketball, even as a little child, my skills improved dramatically. I understand exactly what you're saying, but what if I asked you why people watch football or baseball. How would that make you feel? Basketball is my favorite thing to watch on TV and without it, what do you think life could possibly be like to basketball fans? How would we know who wins or looses games? Since I never have free tickets to a basketball game or something like that, I could just watch it on TV and asked my friends or family how it was like.
Reply:If you think there is no real physical contact in basketball then you have never played organized basketball. And the reason I watch basketball is because it's the word we learn to say in the state of Kentucky before DaDa. We live, eat and breathe it. Even funerals are scheduled around basketball games.
Reply:well a lot of people DO watch hockey and football. that is american football. if you are talking soccer, then forget it. thats not a sport thats more of an exhibition of running skill than anything else. it takes more skill to throw a little ball into a little hoop than to kick a small ball into a HUGE net thats for sure. as for hockey i love it but it doesnt get the credit it deserves. basketball is a lot of fun but i do agree that there are too many complainers playing it. they rules are too stiff in regards to fouls. unless someone is bleeding or bruised, NO FOUL!!
Reply:I could never get into basketball either. But some people like it for whatever reasons, and from what I hear, it's a lot rougher than it looks.
Reply:peop;e habe different views aout things, and you must respect that. like me, i love basketball sooo much. when i tried watching soccer during the FIBA world cup, i got so damn bored. they haven't scored a goal after 1hr, yet people who watch it get amused, but for me, it's boring. that's what's makes us unique, our different views. if for you watching hockey or football makes you enjoy, then for us it's basketball. this game gives us a feeling of enjoyment and make us forget our pronlems temporarily. and maybe you just don't know the game itself, but for us, we all have the same voice that says, " i love this game!"

peace out.=p
Reply:The athletes have to be in tremendously good physical condition to play because they are constantly running up and down a 92 ft court.

They have to have skills such as dribbling without looking at the ball, shooting while driving to the basket or pulling up for 2 or 3 pt jumpers, rebounding against other big powerful men, and play as a team.

Plus, the game is fluid and always moving, unlike baseball and football.
Reply:people watch basketball because they want to
Reply:I think it is very easy to simplifiy any sport like you did in the opening of you question. Like: Football is nothing more than two teams of a few athelic people and a majority of fat people pushing eachother around while attempting to play pass. If someone should pass a line they get points and then get to kick a ball through so Y looking thing. When they get mad they shoot people while off the clock. Now that is not what Football is and what you said is not what Basketball is. Have you seen some of the injuries that occur on basketball. When you get ran down by a 250Lb man and get slammed down on a wood floor that hurts a little more than being hit by a 250Lb man while you are wearing protective gear and fal on grass. The reason why players complain is not because they got hurt and want to cry about it, it is because of consistency. Ref's will call a foul at one end of he court and not the other. I think you would be able to relate to a time time where the rules seemed to be different for other than yourself. That is why the argue calls ( not cry about them) Basketball is a fast paced, contact sport( if ya dont believe it they you've never watched it) that is my american pastime. It hold some of the greatest players in the world. Just like football, baseball, and hockey, you either like it or you dont. I love basketball because these players play thier hearts out ofr a chance for it all. Just like all other sports. I dont like football, baseball, or hockey, but I wont call them winers or fatasses, I just say I dont like the game. How about you do the same.
Reply:I just got into it not too long ago. I'd rather watch basketball than football, but I'm a chick. I just like it.
Reply:Because Football and Hockey is a Sport for GAYS only who would want 12 muscular men on top of them feeling them up and touching them unlike Basketball which is 10X more fun to watch then Real PANSY sports like footbal and Hockey you Queer
Reply:i don't think anyone in hockey would want to mess with shaq, ben wallace, ron artest, or any other big men in the league... and all true sport fans love all sports, love thier teams, loves the competitiveness, etc... you probably don't like basketball because you don't understand the rules, don't understand or know the players/stats, etc... just like i don't like watching golf, i don't know what their doing, doesn't mean golf isn't a sport... if you think only men who can hit each other and tackle each other is a real sport, then you are also disregarding baseball, soccer, and a myriad of other sports that don't allow full contact...
Reply:I watch basketball cuz its better than other sports.
Reply:I like football, hockey and basketball. But say basketball players aren't tough is pretty ridiculous. Pretty much every basketball player could play football in the NFL. They have the size, strength and speed to do it. Just look at Antonio Gates who never played a down in college.
Reply:The tap in arm effects the shot...duh. Ever try playing the game you will see, it is a real sport. They complain because they have the right to, the fall because their just 'flopping". A basketball term that I don't expect you to understand. Basketball is alot more then just "throw" the ball into the "basket". it's about speed, energy, jumping, timing and smarts. If you want a contact sport go watch wrestling. This is a sport for men that don't need violence to win a game.....oh but in the streets, it is a real contact sport haha. You can get your nose broken, lose a few teeth.
Reply:i agree i like watching your mom in mommy does the mavericks, the mountainerrs, the mormons, and the monkeys
Reply:Hey... It's better than soccer
Reply:....because they don't like watching hockey or football.
Reply:Have you ever heard of a guy by the name of Tyler Hansbrough? He plays for UNC and gets hit every time he goes down low. Plus, he's stronger than a lot of football players and definitely stronger than you. So, instead of making a stupid assumption that basketball is a pansy sport, maybe you should watch this guy!
Reply:i play basketball but soccer much more. Basketball is definitely not a pansy sport. thats what you think. you think getting slapped here and there is all they get then you obviously don't play the game. If you think getting pounded by 6 and 7 footers is pansy then your wrong. Each sport as something unique to it. Basketball is great to watch because its very fast paced. And for all of you out there dissin soccer. screw you. You just don't see the beauty and art of it.
Reply:Everyone is not tall and skinny Some are short and some are fat. They all train and compete. Its the best sport ever.
Reply:Your just talking about the how the game works. Basketball isn't just that, it makes you feel anxious when time runs out, if he will be able to block the ball, if he can draw the foul, if the opposing player fell for the crossover, and if the ball goes in or not. It is other people's essence. Basketball is very interesting. And also a team game.

How does Ph of soil affect plant gr0WTH ??

IM USING STATICE ASTER %26amp; PANSY SEEDS . FOR SOIL I USED SAND , POTTING SOIL, %26amp; GROUND SOIL.

I NEED HELP WHAT AM I SUPPOSED 2 DO WITH IT ?? WHAT IS MY CONCLUSION

How does Ph of soil affect plant gr0WTH ??
A little question requiring a very large answer. If this assignment is due soon, I would use radish or navy bean seeds, very quick germination. You also need to be able to check your pH, ask your teacher or buy an inexpensive kit of your own from a big box store. Sand should have a pH close to whatever your waters pH is. Potting soil should be in the range quoted by T-bone, 5.5-6.5. Garden soil will be unknown until you test. RScott
Reply:It affects the plant's ability to take up nutrients from the soil. There can be plenty of nutrients available, but if the pH isn't right then the chemistry of the plant won't work correctly. Eventually the plant will probably die. You can tell the kind of nutrient deficiency by looking at the kind of discoloration in the leaves:

Here's a link to a very good explanation:

http://www.hcs.ohio-state.edu/mg/manual/...
Reply:pH generally affects what nutrients are available to the plant. If pH is too high or low, nutrients such as iron, magnesium etc may be present in the soil, but the plant won't be able to access them. They'll be 'locked up', so to speak.

Ideal pH for most plants usually rests between 5.5 and 6.5

I don't understand your question - is this an academic project of some type?

Who were head boy and head girl during Harry's 7th year? I'm thinking probably Malfoy and Pansy Parkinson since Voldemort and Snape were in charge of the school?

When will the phlyers start playing like men?

they go after players when in very unstable positions an just play dirty hockey the are a bunch of pansies

When will the phlyers start playing like men?
Here's a pointer for your Bruins- STOP PUTTING YOURSELF IN " VERY UNSTABLE POSITIONS"- and a pointer for you, stop whining, it makes you sound like a pansy.
Reply:i agree with bob. and can someone send a link, i didnt see it yet...
Reply:How can they be dirty if they are pansies. Hockey is a tough sport. Just one question. Have you ever been to a Minnesota Wild fight when Boogaard is in it?
Reply:To paraphrase the late Fred Shero:

"This ain't the Ice Capades."
Reply:When will the Bruins stop putting them into vulnerable positions and their fans stop whining like a bunch of little girls?
Reply:bob if it looks like one smells like one and fells like one im pretty sure it is. seriously though one rant and one question wasnt enough for you. you answered the others questions then had to ask one of of ur own huh well doubt u like the answer but flyers are acting like men they aint ducking out of the hit. real men dont whine. grow up
Reply:It goes both ways, Too many players put themselves in vulnerable positions, that smart players wouldnt. Yet, players need to respect each other, because the guy that throws the cheapshots, could be on the recieving end next time. Plain and simple, keep your head up, and when a guy takes a run at ya, introduve him to your dentist, after ya bring the stick up, then guys will think twice about taking a run at ya next time.
Reply:Yes, you are right, players are playing cheap now because there is no enforcer. Gone are the days that if you got stuck in a bad spot, that you knew the other guy wasnt going to plaster you because he would spend the rest of the night fighting to save his face. But now, there is nobody to "take care of business" so the cheap guys can play cheap.
Reply:when will the phlyers start playing like men?

Carli Gazoorian- Why do pansies get sparse after June?

Because pansies are a cool weather crop - they don't like the heat! If you have some that survive the summer, you will see that they perk up when the weather starts to cool in the Fall.

Trying to figure out why these answers would get a thumbs down....makes no sense.

Carli Gazoorian- Why do pansies get sparse after June?
Good answer from the first contributor. Want to add that if you're trying to limp pansies through the summer you must be on the lookout for aphids. I almost guarantee you will have them.

Although pansies are perennial in their natural state, they are used as an annual in north america. I strongly suggest that you change your color for the summer. Pansies are best between October and May. Use periwinkles for a similar effect from May to October.
Reply:Pansies are a cool weather plant. The June heat is too much for them. Try planting in partial shade.

Should I bring pansies inside if the temperature falls below 32?

I bought two six-packs of pansies (annuals) and haven't planted them yet. I'm in Maryland and we're expecting freezing temperatures the next couple of nights (no lower than 28 degrees). Will the pansies be ok outside in their little containers or should I bring them inside? I don't think I'll have a chance to plant them before the temperature starts falling. Thanks

Should I bring pansies inside if the temperature falls below 32?
their delicate, tissue like flower petals hold up really well to sudden frosts so long as it's not prolonged more than a day or so. They take more damage from being trampled, high winds, and very heavy rains than from frost.

I love planting them in rocky flowerbeds and letting them overrun the flowerbed along with dwarf snapdragons... ;-p
Reply:bring them in..certainly can't hurt, right?
Reply:Pansies and quite hardy and can handle freezing temperatures. If they were in a warm protected area where you purchased them, you may want to protect them from extremes. Get them out of the wind- and they should be fine. Good luck.

Why didn't the Steelers run up the score on the Ravens?

What a bunch of pansies.

Why didn't the Steelers run up the score on the Ravens?
It must have been the gleam of 5 Superbowl trophies in our eyes.

Have a nice day.
Reply:Because the Steelers and their Head coach have class unlike some teams in upper NE.
Reply:Patriot Hater myths abound:

They threw their last pass exactly at the same time the Pats did against the Redskins:

Pittsburgh - 11:37

1st-10, PIT36 11:37 W. Parker rushed up the middle for no gain

2nd-10, PIT36 10:52 W. Parker rushed up the middle for 3 yard gain

3rd-7, PIT39 10:11 C. Batch passed to N. Washington to the right for 14 yard gain

1st-10, BAL47 9:26 N. Davenport rushed up the middle for 1 yard gain

2nd-9, BAL46 8:41 N. Davenport rushed to the right for 4 yard loss

3rd-13, 50 8:01 BAL committed 5 yard penalty

3rd-8, BAL45 7:25 E. Reed intercepted C. Batch for 22 yards

I guess the Baltimore interception was intentional on the Steelers. Plus, Rothlisberger came out with sore ribs.
Reply:Because Ben injured his leg and didn't want him out when the game is well in hand.
Reply:Maybe that had something to do with Roethlisberger getting hurt and their offense being a little out of synch.

Or maybe the Ravens played better D when it was too late.

But either way, who cares, they won, they all count.
Reply:Don't think they really did, they started running the ball late in the 3rd. As bad as the Ravens were playing, Baylor could of beat them.
Reply:Because they are not classless like the Patriots.
Reply:They probably would have scored at least 3 more TDs if Roethlisberger hadn't been injured and missed most of the 2nd half.
Reply:They're saving that for when they beat up the Pats.
Reply:You serious?

Not everyone has the same mentality as the Pats and their arrogant head coach.... and apparently their fans.
Reply:Because a ton of points on the scoreboard won't put anything bigger in your pants.(NE needs to figure that out for themselves!)
Reply:thats the difference between a class team and a classless team, the steelers handled it the way you are supposed to
Reply:they are a historical team with class... unlike the pats..

plus its stupid..
Reply:cuz ben is not like tom brady
Reply:pride dick wod!!
Reply:they'd rather win with pride....

how can you call someone a "pansy" for not running up the score and going on to win the game?

please ask educated questions...
Reply:Because we are a classy organization!! Let's Go Steelers Let's Go
Reply:Because they want to conserve whoop-a$$ for the game that REALLY matters ... wait till Sunday!
Reply:they didnt need to and did not want to risk injury............itll be funny when someone is getting ran up by pats and they intentionally hurt brady. it will happen sooner or later this year.

My pansies have have sticky sap all over them and have little green/yellow bug like things??
Yep those are aphids I think lace wings eat them you can buy lace wings, and they are pretty.
Reply:check out htis article. It contains all the information about pansies and thier diseases also their remedy.

http://pubs.caes.uga.edu/caespubs/hortic...
Reply:That sounds like aphids. Try Sevin spray on them.
Reply:If they are little tiny green bugs that look kind of transparent, they are aphids. They are making holes to eat the sweet sap from the plant. I would recommend sevin dust or if you want to stay orgainic, sprinkle some salt water on them. They have a high water content and the salt will dehydrate and kill them.

Don't use too much salt or you will kill the plant too. Doesn't take much since they are so small.
Reply:Ladybugs will eat the aphids. They used to sell them at Star Nursury.

I've a small flower bed I would like to plant for Winter interest, Sensible suggestions please.?

Some alternative to winter flowering pansies perhaps, I would be happy with attractive foliage if nothing else occurs.

I've a small flower bed I would like to plant for Winter interest, Sensible suggestions please.?
Maybe amaryllis bulbs would be great to beautyfie your garden they sell them at stores like: wal-mart, lowes, home depot, loblaws, food basics etc... They have some beautyful ones avaiable like: picotee, double dutch, charmeur, benifica, white chrismas, rilona, minerva.
Reply:hellebore's,primroses, daffs, tulips %26amp; ferns, crocus, snowdrops, the list is endless.
Reply:Hello!,

Yes, there are lots of plants you can use, Euonymus which is a low growing plant that has variegated leaved, usually green/cream very pretty. Also what about dogwood? that has no leaves in winter but has bright red or yellow stems that look attractive all winter long. Perhaps one or two small evergreen firs? Juniper has berries and also a lovely blue/grey colour. Pyracantha that climbs up walls, it has small green leaves and masses of bright red or orange berries in winter. Of course various heathers look good as well. Hope this helps.
Reply:try primroses as they come in all different colours and they last all spring.
Reply:wallflowers for colour and perfume.

perhaps 2or 3 dwarf conifers for colour contrast
Reply:You could try Christmas box.

Heathly evergreen foliage, shiny leaves and a fantastic scent to look forward to after Christmas.
Reply:You do not say if you live in the UK or how much space you have available but if you have room for a small evergreen shrub go for Sarcococca confusa as a background plant.

Sarcococca is a dark green evergreen plant that flowers in December/January, it has tiny white flowers that are heavily scented. The perfume will knock you out.

Trim it in early spring to keep it in shape. Whatever else you choose to plant around it will show up beautifully against the dark green of the shrub.
Reply:Christmas Roses (Heliborus) or winter pansies
Reply:Cyclamen provide year after year colour during winter without needing much attention as do helebores, (Christmas rose). Bulbs as in crocus, daffodils and tulips are a good idea for Spring. Why not try wallflowers as an annual over winter. They seem to thrive in cold weather and will keep flowering through to Spring.
Reply:I've just bought a lovely little shrub called Leucothoe axillaris 'curly red'. It has red curly leaves all through winter - it's lovely.
Reply:Lambs Ears (Stachys Byzantia) still keep their fluffy silver leaves, skimmia have lovely red berries (you must have a male and female to get the berries), Variegated euonymous (silver lady or emerald 'n gold) and winter bedding - polyanthus, primulas, pansies, violas... and then spring flowering bulbs - daffs, crocus, alliums, pushkinia, triteleia, anemone, iris, fritillaria, hyacinths, oxalis - try the 'select a plant' option at the RHS site.

Any experience with extended tooth pain after a root canal?

I had a root canal in November to my front upper tooth - the pain after was much worse than the pain before the procedure. Endodontist decided he needed to REDO the root canal after two months of antibiotics.

It has now been 4 weeks since the procedure, my tooth still throbs and I can't bite into things. Regular dentist and endo are talking about surgery to "save" the tooth, but they can't tell me what's wrong with it or why it still hurts. I've never heard of such a fiasco over a tooth - have you? And everyone keeps telling me that after a root canal there should be no sensation in the tooth, so why is there pain?? I'm not a pansy about pain, but this is getting to be a joke . . .

Why is the SEC so over rated every year in college football?

Suprise Suprise. . . another highly touted SEC team (FLORIDA) big the big schwantz today. . . . why are Florida, Auburn and Georgia SO DAMN over rated every year? They all stink! Jeckly and Hyde teams that can't play smash mouth football. All I ever hear is how the great athletes in the SEC make them better than the rest of the country. . . yet every year they get beat to submission by tough neck football teams. Look at Auburn last year when they got DESTROYED by Wisconsin in a bowl game. SEC teams always are over rated and almost NEVER live even close to their hype! Can you imagine one of these pansy SEC teams facing MICHIGAN, OHIO STATE, WISCONSIN, and PENN STATE? THEY WOULD BE A GROUP OF WALKING WOUNDED!

Why is the SEC so over rated every year in college football?
Im with you man i live in Tenn and all i hear about is how good the sec is and no one compares and its wrong im a buckeye fan and if sec teams played teams from the big then they would get killed. GO BUCKEYES 07 CHAMPS

How do I know which of my outdoor plants/flowers will come back after the freeze we just had?

I sure heave some dead and cold flowers out there. I just planted them last week - hostas and pansies etc.

How do I know which of my outdoor plants/flowers will come back after the freeze we just had?
Depends on the type of plant really...can't give you much more information other than that when I don't know what you have in the ground.

The pansies might come back, but I doubt it. They're a very vascular plant (water in the stems/leaves) and if they froze, then the tissue will die and they will die too.

Your hostas should be fine. They will get brown edges and if it was really cold, they will get frost burn pretty bad but they should manage to survive. Make sure not to cut the dead stalks back until you are sure it won't freeze again, however, because cutting the stalks off will encourage the plant to send up new stalks and the tender growth will be more vulnerable to the cold.

Good luck!
Reply:Pansies will probably live. Hostas 50/50. I'm pushing for summertime too, but give it about another 2 weeks.

I think they're the most entertaining club in the Premiership but if all that entertainment leads to nothing, then you can't consider them a good club. To have a good club, you must be entertaining but also get results and win trophies. That's something that Arsenal have not done this season but next season could be different.
Reply:NO it's rubbish.
Reply:arsenal are like expert shadow boxers.

they move brilliantly, but there's little end result.

and their style of play isnt french, there isnt a french team in france that plays like them ( or is as good as them )
Reply:That's what they call the "attractive football". Most of the Arsenal supporters don't like their current playing style 100 passes to take 1 shot. All they want is winning game even though they play ugly and boring football. Arsenal fans will notice that the Gunners seldom win 1-0 cuz Wenger think its boring. Now they pay the price cuz they sliped from 1st spot to 3rd and they were knocked pout of the CL
Reply:personally i dont detest their playing.

however pathetic and boring game they bring, they managed to be 1 of the top team in the league.
Reply:LOL It can be entertaining when they keep the ball, but then it does get a bit boring.
Reply:Arsenal do play some lovely football at times but if they dont win trophies it is all a bit pointless. I think the game against Ourselves (liverpool) during the week proved that flair can only get you so far.
Reply:you are alone with this one I think...most people (non-biased) agree that Arsenal play the most attractive football in England.

Why is the SEC so over rated every year in college football?

Suprise Suprise. . . another highly touted SEC team (FLORIDA) bit the big schwantz today. . . . why are Florida, Auburn and Georgia SO DAMN over rated every year?

Where do I begin with this idotic stat ement? Ok, first off, your an idiot. Second off, Im guessing the SEC was bad when LSU won the national title? And when Aubern should have been in the title game, but Oklahoma got it handed to them. I also would not call a 14 point win "destroying" someone. Year in and year out, the SEC is one of the toughest conferences in the country. Oh, and since you gave ONE shitty example of a Big 10 team beatin an SEC team, Ill give you some. 2005 Florida beating Iowa by 7, 2004 Kentucky spanking Indiana by 19, 2003 UK spanking Indiana by 17, 2002 UK beating Indiana by 10, 2004 Georgia beating Wisconsin by 3, 2003 Georgia beating Purdue by 7. I could go on, but I am already wasting my time with an idiot. Face it, the SEC is one of the best Conferences in America. And oh yea, GO BUCKEYES!
Reply:Don't forget about Tennessee spanking Michigan in the Citrus Bowl a few years back. It was great. Also beat Ohio State and Eddie George as well.

Have you noticed that most of the SEC losses are to other SEC teams? It's because the SEC has so many good teams. I'll agree that Georgia is not good this year (got beat by Vandy today!!) but Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, LSU are all pretty dang good teams. Arkansas is getting better and more confident as well.

Come bowl time the SEC will prove once again that it is the premier conference.
Reply:Because they are:

1) east of the Mississippi

2) near the 'media mecca' of Atlanta

3) The Union is starting to feel bad about what happened during

Reconstruction.
Reply:No team in the SEC is worth much. They play a bunch of pansies like Wofford, and Utah State to begin their season then begin beating each other up in SEC play and everyone talks about how great they are. The teams in their conference that have played a good team outside of their conference have gotten beat. Arkansas got beat by USC, Vandy got beat by Michigan. This conference is still hanging its hat on Bamas national titles to make it a legit conference. Auburn, LSU, Tennessee, Florida would get beaten by the elite of the Big East and that includes a victory by Rutgers. Wont even start comparing them to the Big Ten the SEC will only send their doormats to play Big Ten teams. Best conference in College Football is the Big Ten this year.
Reply:OVERRATED? ARE YOU ON CRACK? They send half the conference to bowls almost every year; they've won four national titles in the last 15 years. As for facing your choices every year, could you imagine THEM facing US? Believe me, the top five or six schools in each conference would be pretty evenly matched. CAN'T PLAY SMASHMOUTH FOOTBALL? HELL, we INVENTED SMASHMOUTH FOOTBALL! You're talking about recent "hiccups" as far as Florida, Georgia, Auburn and Tennessee are concerned. We spend ALL YEAR kicking EACH OTHER'S butts and you wonder why we "stink"? When the "Big 11" becomes more than Michigan/Ohio State and the 9 Dwarfs, give me a call! Until then, Kiss MY SEC-LOIVING ***!
Reply:how can you say they are over rated when 5 of them are on top of the polls? if an sec team took on any big ten team, ohio included i think the sec woudl rise up and shut all the SEC haters the hell up.
Reply:Einstein, all I can say is you got served. Plenty of thoughts and facts abve to tell your dumbass why the SEC is so good.
Reply:I think it's time to change your name.

I have a terrible aphid infestation on my pansies.Have sprayed twice with little results. Help?
There's a great product made by BAYER and is sold under the name of: "BAYER ADVANCED GARDEN MULTI-INSECT KILLER" and is found sold at most hardware stores. The active ingredient in the product is called "IMIDACLOPRID" and it is very safe to humans and animals.

It does an excellent job in controlling most of your sucking insects such as; Aphids, whiteflies, scale, mealybugs, thrips and psyllids. The only sucking insect it doesn't control are mites.

You simply mix this liquid product with water and apply it to the soil around the base of your ornamental plants. Once it's applied, the roots of your plants will take it in and then translocate the material up to the foilage. It usually takes about 3 or 4 days before you begin to see control but one application will usually last the entire growing season! I've used it on the ornamental trees on my property and it works extremely well controlling the aphids, scale and mealybugs.

Keep in mind that it doesn't work if you spray it directly onto the insects or foilage.

Hope this answered your question and your pansies are able to grow pest-free for the rest of the season!

There are over 4,000 species of aphids, most are plant selective like the parsely aphid, You can find green peach aphids on most anything

Aphids reproduce at the rate of 200 more every 2 weeks, per female Females are born prego

The soap spray would be better for babies, pets and your lungs. Plus a host of beneficials like dragon and butterflies and bees.

The soap plugs up the pours in aphid type insects, for those that handle their food, it gives them terminal dysentary

To have some control, you need to spray your plants every 7 to 10 days from frost out to frozen ground for about 3 years

LOL
Reply:I have three recommendations.

1 - Diotomaceous Earth. Consisting of ground up microscopic fossilized plankton skeletons, once spread on plants, it is as if the bugs are walking on broken glass. It's particularly effective against aphids as all they are is little green bags of water... break the "bag" and they simply dry up and blow away. A simplistic description, yes... but how it basically works. The down side... it will have a negative effect on ALL garden bugs, even the beneficial ones, and it needs to be reapplied often especially after rain and wind. The up side, it's largely inert, however, if inhaled it can be VERY irritating, so exercise caution in its application.

2 - Wood ashes. Not as effective as diotomaceous earth, but a whole lot less expensive, especially if you burn wood. Works on the same basic principle as #1.

3 - Soapy water. Aphids drink a lot. If you spray concentrated soapy water on your plants, the aphids will ingest the soap. Essentially, this gives them terminal diarrhoea! Certainly not as effective as poison... but it has the advantage of NOT being poison. You can use ordinary dish soap and a spray bottle to apply it.

None of the above suggestions will likely totally cure your aphid problem. However, they all have the advantage of not putting poison in your yard that can have negative effects on everything in the food chain... including YOU.

Hope this helps!
Reply:seven or seven dust make sure u follow direction as more than one application will be necessary
Reply:Be kind to the earth. Use lady bugs - they LOVE aphids. Gardening centers actually sell them in containers.

Ladybugs also love mealy bugs on houseplants, if you don't mind sharing your home with ladybugs (I share mine with 'em - I think they're cute!)
Reply:lady bugs - check with your garden store to see if you can buy live ladybugs. they eat aphids. I have tried everything in the past except the ladybugs - which have been recommeded to me by a landscaper, just waiting until spring to get some and see if this year I can have my lupins (aphids seem to like them too)
Reply:Try one teaspoon of dish liquid to one gallon of water, or the same with rubbung alcohol. It should help. Spay directly on plant and roots and ground surfaces surronding plants, do this weekly, it will work good.

How can we stop feral pigs from destroying our yard??

Since having our house built and moving to a development in a rural area last November the pigs have had many parties under our large oak tree. They never attacked the area when the lot was vacant, but they now destroy the area on a regular basis. They have an area of about 15' X 30' dug up to a depth of about a foot deep. It doesn't matter whether the lights are on or off. We know that they are going after the acorns, and we don't think there are any grubs. We don't want to put in a lawn that will survive the TX heat until we have solved the problem. We now only have rye grass in, but that will be dying off once it gets hot. We can use all the help that we can get. Now I'm off to figure out why this stupid robin has been banging his head on our bedroom window for almost 3 hours. Thanks much, Pansy

How can we stop feral pigs from destroying our yard??
Not sure what the rules would be about hunting the pigs, but that's the best and easiest way to take care of them. Other than that, call the conservation department or a pest control to have them moved. The conservation department might just tell you to that you can pluck them off as needed. If you yourself do not hunt, then I am sure you can find some texas boy to do the deed. I'd love to take a couple down for you, but SW Kansas is still a ways from TX, depending on where you are.
Reply:without a gun? Go to your local walmart or grocery store of the like and buy some all around animal repellent, if they hav esomthing specifically for the pigs, the better, other than that get out your rifle. (oh, well, usually bigger dogs also scare away feral pigs)
Reply:Feral pigs are ideal for target practice. They are not protected, desired, or wanted, and if a sow has piglets she can be very dangerous. Get yourself a good rifle and start keeping count of how many you can do away with.
Reply:have a barbeque - ;-)
Reply:The most effective way to stop the feral pigs from destroying your yard is to put up a tight fence. That way they can't get in and dig up your yard.

Why do all you people insist VISTA is horrible when u never used it?

thats all i ask, most of you know who you are and dont give me the old (said in a whining pansy voice) "Well my Uncle Faukameovr, Cousin Litume or

Sister Mothermarysaintofallsaints would NEVER steer me wrong....told me that its XP service pack 3, huh? really!

guess what? they are full of service pack 2 ...so full its sticking out their ears (wish i could of said what i really ment)...so all you people that HAVE used it let me know if I'm right and it rules! XP is gone!!! outta here....obsolete!

Why do all you people insist VISTA is horrible when u never used it?
vista is not horrible and xp isn't gone just yet. the main problem in vista is it is new. in a computer system all hardwares must be compatible with the operating system to make it work. the problem is, microsoft doesn't manufacture most of the hardwares used thus there are incompatibilities as the manufacturers, both of the os and the hardwares, still need to fix or write new drivers smoothen other bugs and issues. that's why at the moment more computers can benefit with retaining their xp with their hardwares.

edit: very lucky for you. your one computer is very compatible with it. i have used some, repaired some and encountered some which unfortunately for this time will have to retain their xp not just for their hardwares but also softwares as well.

one more thing... vista is also a resource hog. 512mb of ram is not at all obsolete right now but you can't use it for total vista experience. as well as a 40gig hard disk for there wouldn't be much room left for other programs.

What should i do with my pansies now, so they flower again next year?

"True pansies" can weather temperatures in the single digits and bounce back after the weather warms. But they can be that strong and resourceful only if they've had a chance to get a good footing before cold weather hits.

Give pansies what they want--well-drained, rich soil in a sunny to partly shady location. Amend the soil with a little finished compost or rotted manure. To ensure good drainage and to help them stand out a bit more in your design, raise the planting bed by a few inches.

http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/gl_seasonal_fal...

Avoid using fertilizers containing high amounts of slow-release ammoniacal nitrogen. "High rates of ammoniacal nitrogen will cause pansy stems to stretch and become succulent during the warm fall weather. This weakens the plants and makes them more susceptible to winter injury. Ammoniacal nitrogen also is slow to be absorbed by the plants during the winter months when soil temperatures drop below 45 degrees F. Pansies can starve during the winter months even though the soil contains high amounts of ammoniacal nitrogen....

A thorough drenching of the soil at transplant with 150 ppm of a soluble greenhouse fertilizer such as 20-10-20 will work well for the first weeks of September and October. Avoid high rates of nitrogen during September and later in April and May.."

http://pubs.caes.uga.edu/caespubs/hortic...

Water plants well %26amp; apply pine straw 2-4 inches thick to protect pansys from freeze injury.

Advice from Mike McGrath (91FM):

"The plants will produce new blossoms at least until it gets REALLY cold. Then, depending on the weather, you might give them a little winter protection in the North. A few evergreen boughs placed gently overtop of the plants is the ideal protection; just use cut branches from discarded Christmas trees! Don't try and really 'mulch' them--the branches are just there to prevent the plants from being crushed if we get heavy snow or ice; they don't care about the cold.

Any Northern gardeners who get a nice warm spell midwinter should remove those boughs and let the plants enjoy it--they may even flower for you!

Remove any winter protection early--in February or March here in the North; as soon as the first Spring bulbs begin to poke up. Don't worry about frost--these super-hardy posies laugh at it! They'll begin flowering quickly and provide you with tons of flowers till summer's heat finally blasts them out...generally around the end of June or early July here in the North (which, coincidentally, is the time you should start seeds inside if you want to grow your own plants for Fall). "

Good luck! Hope this is helpful.

What should i do with my pansies now, so they flower again next year?
Pansies are annuals, which means you plant them every year; although if the conditions are right, you can nurse them through a winter. They tend to die off in hot summers. Most people just buy new seeds each spring.

Are teams/players who wine about opponents 'running up the score' a bunch of pansies?

The winning team has a right to win by as much as it can. The fact that you suck is nobody's problem but your own.

Are teams/players who wine about opponents 'running up the score' a bunch of pansies?
Tweety doesn't know what he is talking about when it comes to college scores. The amount of points scored by college teams DOES COUNT in the BCS standings.

In the NFL score as many as possible too.
Reply:Absolutely, they're a bunch of pansies...

Every team in the NFL has been on both ends of a blowout...it happens... what's different here is that it's one team, blowing out one opponent after another, week after week...

Peyton Manning threw 6 TD passes in a 41-9 blowout of Detroit in his record setting TD season... and he only broke Marino's record by ONE TD. The way Brady is going, he's not only going to break Peyton's record, he's going to shatter it.

But you're exactly right... if a team can't stop them (and can't score against them), who's fault is that? Exactly :)

Sammy Baugh, the Redskins QB from the 40s, summed up best the way a loser should act after a blowout...

When the Bears beat the Redskins 73-0 in the 1940 NFL title game, Baugh, the 'Skins QB, was asked what he thought the score would have been had the Redskins scored first... he replied "73-7".

When you get you butt kicked, just admit it, congratulate the winners, and get on with your life!

If all these idiotic fans complain about the Pats running up the score, then why do so many of them hope that the Colts BLOW OUT the Patriots this weekend? Give me a break, either you're for blowouts, or against them... but if anyone wants the Colts to blow the Pats out on Sunday, it's exactly the same as what the Patriots are doing...

People should just admit they hate the Patriots regardless of how much (or how little) they win by.

I've seen a few games over the years in which teams came back from 20+ point deficits in the 4th Qtr...and many more such comebacks during 2nd halves of games...

Also, I'm sure that if we checked the scores of the Dolphins games during Marino's then-record TD season, I'm sure he padded those numbers with a few extra TD's in blowouts. That Dolphin offense was incredible...

_________________________

Do you hear fans of LSU, Ohio State, USC, Florida complaining that their teams pile it on? Never... none of them can get enough of 63-10 blowouts... College should be more sportsmanlike than the NFL, not less...because there's a lot less at stake.

Bottom line is, if YOUR team blows someone out, fine...if someone does it to you, gee, how unfair of them!
Reply:yes
Reply:let me take a stab at it....football is considered a mans game. classy men are respectful yet fair, men you beat people down just because they can are not considered to be good men. it becomes apparent when the other team has decided to quit fighting. they have accepted their defeat and are ready to move on. what kind of man rubs salt in a wound? yes, they have the right to. but that doesnt mean it is the "right" thing to do. football players and coaches are proud, they have fought long and hard to get where they are. when their pride is hurt, they get angry. they arent necassarily whining, just asking for respect. and not showing a respect is unmanly.
Reply:Offense get millions just to put the ball in the endzone so do your job for 60 minutes...And Defense get millions to stop it for 60 minutes so blame the D for not doing their job thats free money if you let them score 52 and you have nothing on the score board...And for the record I HATE the Pats but you can't complain for them doing what they get paid to do and thats play for 60 minutes...
Reply:No team or player has whined about it. Its the media doing the whining. And if certain teams fans cant take the heat they need to get out of the kitchen. You cant be classless and want respect.
Reply:yup
Reply:YES, and so are their fans!!
Reply:That's whine, not "wine", which it seems you may have been drinking too much of.
Reply:Yes. Anything can happen in football so why not score as much as possible in case the other team desides to show up?
Reply:Sure run up the score with all your starters in the 4th quarter. Just don't come back here crying about it when your golden boy QB gets his spleen removed by a defensive end who didn't hear the whistle in time during an 8-man blitz vs. a 5-man line.

Will ther be a One Night Stand next year?

I've noticed that alot of people have gotten hurt and all of them are pansies like Randy Orton. The only tough dude that actually hurt is the Big Show. Besides him and Tommy dreamer the rest of the roster is a bunch os whimps that cry when they get hurt for REAL.And Vince sure does not like lawsuits and bad media even though he is no stanger.

Scott West of the Western Bulldogs - Is he the weakest player in the AFL?

He was happy to scrag Daniel kerr all day during the match against the WCE but when Kerr whacks him one he drops to the ground as though he's been shot with a .303!

What a weakling. He is the type that is giving AFL a bad name with the constant free kick staging %26amp; making out their hurt when someone touches them. He %26amp; others are worse than pansy soccer players.

Scott West of the Western Bulldogs - Is he the weakest player in the AFL?
Yes I agree.

I agree to a certain extent. What I mean is - I see every week players staging %26amp; diving. It used to be a mans sport .....for red-blooded men. Now it appears to be dominated by players who spend as much time staging for free kicks as they do in chasing the ball.

The instances of players faking injury %26amp; trying to get their opponent reported is worrying.

When I played football I would cover it up as best I could if I got hurt - I did not want the opponent to see that he had hurt me. They must just be big sooks today.
Reply:Did you even watch the game?

"He was happy to scrag Daniel Kerr all day during the match"

The incident happened 10 minutes into the first quarter! So how you can say West was scragging Kerr all during the match is beyond me.

I'm assuming when you say he and others are worse than soccer players, you mean the whole West Coast Eagles team as they are soft as!
Reply:someone should give you a headbutt and see how you like it...

what Kerr did was wrong.. you shouldn't be headbutting anyone in Footy. I'm sure if some rugby idiot headbutted a cowboys player you wouldn't be pleased about it so why should it be ok for a player from a club you (presumably) support?

I don't think West expected Kerr to put his head in West's face and so he went down and off for a few minutes. Nothing wrong with that. Nothing weak about it either.

West isn't weak. You deserve a headbutt, gutsache.
Reply:you seem to equate manhood with thuggery gutsache.

West is an experienced team player who plays the ball, not the man, unlike a few of your little friends at the WCE.
Reply:I agree he's definitely not tough at the ball. He just waits for people to dish the ball to him instead of getting in hard and getting the ball.
Reply:No, But he is getting old though. That may be a cause of him getting slower.
Reply:Yes.

He performed and acted like a spoilt kindy kid. He ran off crying to tell mummy!

I just bought pansies, now i have bugs!!!?

I just bought pansies now i have little flies, maybe gnats all over the place! Its an indoor plant, i live in an apartment and dont have an outdoor placeto put it... how can i get rid of these bugs!!!THanks!

I just bought pansies, now i have bugs!!!?
1. bring it out side and spray it with bug killer spary . you can buy from any garden store. Most spray can kill most bugs, (but if you really concerned, idetify the flies you have and pick the one is right for you. Usually garden center have chart for you to identify the bugs and advise you to get certern spary for kill specific bugs.)

2. you can also try put some water in to liquid soap to make your own soap spray. it might not as affective as the ones you buy from the store

Does the Italian soccer team act to much when they are being touched to get a foul called?

I like their quick and precise style of play, but I will admit that they play like pansies and do not play physical. They fall to the ground with the slightest of touches. They should play like men, and not like actors!!

Does the Italian soccer team act to much when they are being touched to get a foul called?
Its only one or two players like Totti that do it. As for not being physical, I don't think you're watching them hard enough. Just look at Gattuso how tough he plays.

But Italy isn't the only team of divers judging from the other Semi-Final or other matches I've seen.

Its amazing nobody mentioned Marco Bresciano's triple twist with a somersault that got the Italian player wrongly sent off in the game against Australia.
Reply:Some players do that professionally in certain situations, others are stupid and do it all the time and ruin the game.

Italian players are tough and can handle tackles, yet some players do that for free kicks %26amp; penalties like any other players in other teams.

Best divers in this tournament are the Portuguese.
Reply:Well, I'm an Italian fan and I always follow Euro club competition (Champions League, UEFA cup), and I never noticed our players were so Oscar Award deserving...

Italian clubs are full of champions coming from the whole world. In example, in Juventus are actually playing Nedved, Vieira, Ibrahimovic, Emerson, Thuram, Trezeguet. Former Juventus player are Zidane and Henry. Why need they to play in a 'movie' championship were falling is the main skill?

In Italy we often blame Spanish, South Americans and Portuguese teams by having this issue... but this definitively only a childish way to criticize opponents, an usual press strategy to hotting a match. Our last target of such claims was Pavel Nedved, of course when Italy-Czech match was next to play. A great player, UEFA Golden Ball awarded. Really falling is his first skill? ;-))

Any team MUST play in a men way, there is no point in an always-falling way. Referee aren't a bunch of blind, drunk, cheating outlaws, and you are easily targeted if your way of play is issued by unsportsmanship. Trying to force a referee in his decision is a minor part in Italian way to play. Our defenders and midfielders (Gattuso, Perrotta) are highly physical players. Toni is physical forward. Totti had a broken leg in February, then a great recover due to willingness and mental fit. He's playing this WC at 70% his full skills, but his tactical role has no substitutes, and coach Lippi must send him on the field. Buffon recovered from an injury, but lost the main part of 2005-6 Italian 'serie A' tournament, and now we all can see his performances.

Finally, to me they're all 'MEN', not pansies (anything this could be) and their skills doesn't involve any fall training ;-)))
Reply:They are just a bunch of girls! I find it really frustrating to watch their matches because I get so annoyed I just feel like coming up to them and shouting: GET UP U PATHETIC LOOSER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:No the Italian are physical , GATTUSO Gennaro not phsical !!!!!
Reply:don blame them for acting up from a foul to achieve a free kicks or anythings.... human being are born to act too...just like my fav mr bean.... sportmanship sometimes don carry along the way just becos the needs to achieve or win by any means...cheers matez
Reply:No they are not actors they are players.
Reply:They do that so that they can get penalties. And it works, unfortunately. They even fall when they aren't touched. They all need yello cards for diving. AND IT IS NOT 1 OR 2 PLAYERS THAT DO THAT. IT IS ALL OF THEM AND IT IS REALLY REALLY REALLY ANNOYING.
Reply:Yes, but i think most of the players and most of the teams try to get the most of every little thing so you cant really blame them

Do I plant my seeds before the rain?

I have a little patch of "lawn" that I have been trying to grow wild flowers, after a year of no success; i decided to till up the soil and start over. Im ready to throw the new seeds out, but the word is that it is suppose to rain in a few days and get "cold" (i say "cold" because i live in California,by the beach... cold means 60 degrees.. maybe down to 40 at night). Do I wait for the rain to pass, or will the rain help the seeds sprout?

my seeds are Stock, California poppies, and pansies

Do I plant my seeds before the rain?
If the area is not subject to severe runoff or ponding, I'd sow my seeds. Make sure you cover them with soil as per the directions on the package. I think pansies (violas) require darkness to germinate, so check the germination requirements for light, soil cover and water. My only concern with planting before a rain is that some seeds might wash away in a severe rainstorm. Good Luck.
Reply:I think you should plant the seeds but if it starts raining and your plants could get rain on them do not bother watering them but maybe but some fertelized on it but if it does not rain that much water your plants and make sure if its sunny they get some sun because they need the sun and some water to grow

Should we have faih in our own government anymore?

Our laws and values system in this country is slowly being slung out the window like a bucket of piss. The government says they are for "border control" yet hundreds slip across those borders every week. What good are laws if they are not enforced? The illegals that want to stay living here enjoying our country and not become citizens need one-way tickets back to their own country. What we need in the white house and the pentagon are some people with balls, not a bunch of big mouthed pansies. Maybe a woman does need to become President.

Should we have faih in our own government anymore?
its time to vote for people that do take this seriously and want to up hold the laws. I have a feeling that if nothing is done there will be alot of new faces in congress.
Reply:i cant have faith in any thing or anybody that lies. and thats all they do .
Reply:Technically, the government is still good. It's the people running it who are bad.

We the people need to get more informed, more involved, and elect more grass roots candidates to office. We need to stop pandering to special interests and wedge issue groups.

We need to focus on what is best for our communities and for our country.

The GOP isn't doing that. The Dems are not doing that. We have to start from scratch.

Best thing to do, vote the Republicans out in '06. Then work on the Democrats.

Its our country, and we need to remind those in office who they work for; The people, not private interests.
Reply:If they do not represent the majority, they are out of office. MAKE SURE THAT YOU VOTE!!!!!11
Reply:Keep faith in our system of government, a woman will become President of the US.
Reply:We, in theory, should be able to.

But I don't think that we currently should. We legal residents and citizens need to stand up and be counted and heard. Never underestimate very loud and seemingly ignorant minorities. We are the majority. We are in our own country. We are the ones to whom the government owes proper governing.
Reply:It may not work as well as we want, but it's better than the next best thing.

We have to help make it work, by framing the issues in such a way that people can agree and then act on them.

Not fight over the details.
Reply:Keeping the illegal invaders out of our country has been a Republican and independent Issue politically, so the liberal Media did not support the Issue. The Media used public opinion polls to convince the American that these invaders are doing a favor for all of us. It became politically Incorrect to do anything about it until now after the problem has gotten so out of hand.

This has done a great injustice not only for the USA but also for the people of Mexico as we made it easyer for them to come here instead of reforming the way their country works. Just think if the energy of these 12-20 million illegals would be turned to making Mexico a safer and better place to live.

But no, no change in Mexico, no life here for them. We not only turned our backs on our self but them as well.

Reply:The government has let us down. It lets the country be overrun by illegal aliens who are violating the very laws that this government is supposed to protect - and meanwhile, they just look the other way.

The last time I checked, we were considered a Democracy - so the government is supposed to reflect the will of the people. Yet in reality, the will of the majority does not mean anything. The government officials only pander to special interests that promise them votes and compain contributions.

The politicians do not think about the people they represent, nor the laws and the Constitution they are supposed to uphold - they are only worried about keeping their cushy seat in the next re-election. We all as Americans should be outraged.

Why is the Italian team such crybabies?

The only reason Italy advanced is because they had the help of the referees in 2 games. They cry like little pansies and they flop all the time. They need to grow balls and stop crying.

Do flowers mind being planted in the fall of the year if they are normally spring flowering?

Hi

I want to plant some pansies in the house this fall ... will that work or do

they resent being forced out of season?

Ta!

Do flowers mind being planted in the fall of the year if they are normally spring flowering?
I've done it and had good results, but it might depend on the weather in your area. Try it. It's fun to see what you can do with plants!
Reply:My grandmother used to plant them in the fall but I have never heard of forcing them in the house. Best thing to do is to try it.
Reply:Pansies are quite hardy, late sowing and planting out in the autumn will produce early flowering in the spring in the UK. If your winters are a lot harder give them some preotection over the winter and try it. keep the others under cover. It is always worthwhile experimenting with plants, after all all you have lost is a bit of seed.
Reply:pansies and violas are very hardy and actually prefer cooler, moist conditions (they will not survive long in hot dry weather). In temperate climates they are often used as winter bedding/container plants: buy and plant some in early fall and you will get a burst of flowering in fall, a few flowers over winter and another burst of flowering in spring before the plants die. Of course you can plant them in Spring for summer flowering too but the fall planting gives you colour over a longer period.

What can I do to keep my flower garden looking healthy? I have pansies and they look pitiful..?

It is normal for pansies to wither up and die during the hot summer months. They like cool (even cold) weather. Pull them up and plant petunias in their place. The petunias will last until a hard frost. When the petunias start looking puny, pull them up and plant more pansies.

What can I do to keep my flower garden looking healthy? I have pansies and they look pitiful..?
great! that would have helped me if i had that problem wow I never would have known that Report It

Reply:I hope your pansies flourish this fall when it cools off! In the meantime, I hope you enjoy my fav flower -- petunia!

Best wishes! Report It

Reply:Pansies are cool season plants. Plant them in the fall, and they go through the winter and die when it gets hot. If you still have pansies, they're way past their shelf life. They're cool season annuals. Go plant some warm season annuals- vinca, impatiens, petunias, dianthus, etc.
Reply:Depends on where you live. In California, it's too late in the season for pansies. They're best in winter and early spring. In the summer, try marigolds, zinnias, petunias, geraniums....
Reply:Feed them plant food.. mix with water .. then your hose and just spray until your bottle is empty..

Spring showers, brought May flowers, and may flowers

brought the Pilgrims..Lol, Lol...
Reply:Try feeding them vitamin B, of coarse they need water. Pansies I think need full sun; they won't do well in the shade. To help flowers and others plants to produce flowers and fruit use

0-10-10 which is a fertilizer that is sometimes called full bloom.
Reply:Miracle grow. Use the feeder attachment on your hose. Works wonder. Also pansies do well in part/full sun but they do need their water to grow to full potential.

At what temperature do pansies freeze?

Pansies do best when its over 40 degrees, everything will freeze at 32 degrees so if you put pansies out during the daytime, bring them in or cover them at night so they don't get a hard frost or freeze. I've seen them survive a light snowfall but you should protect them.

At what temperature do pansies freeze?
In my area (zone 8 temps fall to 10°F) pansies are considered winter hardy. However, the low temp occurs just before sunrise, and is not usually sustained. Right now I have pansies planted in clay pots on my back deck. We have had 28° temps for two days with sleet and freezing rain. This will cause some damage, but I fully expect them to recover when this cold passes.

We plant them in late fall, and they remain low to the ground over the winter. They start blooming in early spring, continuing until it gets too hot for them.

Is it right to pick blooms after planting winter pansies straight away?

Yes! It is best to do this with all plants.

Why? So, the plant will focus on putting out new growth and roots. It will not waste energy on the blooms that are on the plant. By doing this, you will benefit your new planting. Happy Gardening.

Is it right to pick blooms after planting winter pansies straight away?
Yes that OK it will help the plant it will not waste energy on the bloom and be able to put moor energy in to it's roots and foliage
Reply:It's fine to do so; in fact, you might even be helping the plant to grow a bit. Removing flowers allows more nutrients to go to the plant itself, so that it has a chance to establish itself. Once you've removed the flowers initially, however, let the plant grow in its own way. After all, the flowers are the reason you grow them :-)

Enjoy!
Reply:Absolutely. this way the will get right on to the job of producing good roots and then new flowers instead of supporting the growing flowers and trying to make seeds. This is a good rule for all new plants

Once they do start to bloom , now and again in the spring, remember that with pansies - the more you pick the more flowers you will get
Reply:um no?

wont that like kill the plant?

plus y would u wanna pick them rite afta u plant em?
Reply:Why would you pick the flowers right after planting them you DA?

I think my flowers are dying in my little garden?

I really don't know what I'm doing and I just tried to start my first garden. The pansies look like their dying. Yesterday flowers...today shriveled leaves. I'm not sure if I gave them enough water, but I don't want to overdo it. Please help!!!

I think my flowers are dying in my little garden?
first of all pansies like shade and coolness.I have seen them bloom in winter. the cooler the better. water your garden early morn or after the sun goes down never in the heat and water is very essential for flowers. have you ever heard the saying april showers bring may flowers? also when planting look at the tags to see if they like sun or shade and plant accordingly same with seed packs
Reply:water and a good soil
Reply:Plants that are in pots need more water, those in the ground get moisture from the soil. if they are in a pot, try moving them out of the scorching sun. Poke your finger in the ground near them, is it bone dry............? Has the soil come away from the sides of the pot so there is a gap? If so, not enough water. When the flowers fold up, then just nip those off, then you`ll get more flowers. If your pansies are really dry , try just giving them loads of water for a day or so and see if they recover.
Reply:Have you many cats around ?? that could be the problem.
Reply:pansy,s are quite a strong little plant - they survive well in summer %26amp; winter - they often look a bit shabby after they have flowered their best - dont foget to dead head them to keep new flowers coming - give them a little tomartoe feed once a week during summer to keep them looking fresh - water is important - if you keep them in pots they must be watered every day %26amp; if in the garden they will look limp if they need water - they do rally again be patient - gardening is all about waiting %26amp; you will love the rewards - good luck.
Reply:dont really know much a bout about panzies ???

but all i know with gardening is dont over water dont give too many nutrients (ie plant food) make sure they get plenty of sunlight
Reply:are you sure they are not winter/spring pansies? these will die this time of year anyway.

if they are summer ones then water them when there is no sun every day. feed them once a fortnight and every time a flower dies pinch it off so that it encourages more flowers.

this works because a plant needs seeds to reproduce and each time a flower dies it fills a pod with seeds, if you pull the dead flower off it can't seed therefore the plant has to produce more flowers to get more seed.

good luck with your garden.

Check the soil they are in by pressing your finger into it gently. If the soil springs back and clings a little to your finger...then the soil is a good moisture level.

If your leaves look a little yellow or faded and limp then its because there is too much water.

Dry soil is very obvious the dirt will feel hard and crumbly, and plants kept in small places, like pots or window boxes will need more nutrient in the soil. I like a good mix of potting soil, a cup or so of peat moss and some good old fashioned cow manure.

I find my pansies do well out of direct sunlight with moderate water. semi shade should work okay for them. And if you are depending on the rain to water them make sure that there is nothing hanging over them that will sheild them from the rain...like a tree or a house eaves overhang... good luck. ^^
Reply:Only water them once a day. Give them some plant food. Also cheek to see how much light the plant needs.
Reply:I can so relate to this. I always want to grow plants and then just seem to mess it up somehow. Lately I've been planting things that grow naturally in my area -- they seem to do fine in the wild, so maybe I won't kill them. I've got a pretty nice stand of wild sunflowers in my back garden, so I guess it's working. Here's a great site with tips for new gardeners: http://www.gardenadvice.co.uk/

Good luck with your flowers,

~Tia~
Reply:Do not expect the same performance from pansies and violas in the summer. Southern heat and humidity are not suited for these cool temperature bloomers.
Reply:Most gardeners buy biennials as packs of young plants from the garden center and plant them directly into the garden soil. Gardeners interested in rarer cultivars can plant seeds indoors in early November for plants ready in the spring. Under good conditions, pansies and viola are perennial plants, although they are generally treated as annual or biennial plants because they get very leggy and overgrown after a few years. The mature plant grows to 9 inches (23 cm) high, and the flowers are two to three inches (about 6 cm) in diameter.

Pansies are hardy in zones 4-8. They can survive light freezes or a little snow, but not for very long. In warmer climates, zones 9-11, pansies can bloom over the winter, and are often planted in the fall. In these climates, pansies have been known to reseed themselves and come back the next year. Pansies are not very heat-tolerant - once the temperature gets over a certain point they will become leggy and stop blooming.

Pansies should be watered thoroughly about once a week, depending on climate and recent rainfall. For maximum bloom, they should be given flowering plant food about every other week, according to the plant food directions. Regular deadheading can extend the blooming period.

Diseases

Stem rot or pansy sickness

The plant may collapse without warning in the middle of season. The foliage will flag and lose color. Flowers will fade and shrivel prematurely. Stem will snap at the soil line if tugged slightly.

The plant is probably a total loss unless tufted.

Soil-borne fungus. Possible hazard with unsterilized animal manure.

Use Cheshunt or modern Benomyl fungicide prior to planting. Destroy (burn) infected plants.

Cheshunt recipe

2 parts finely ground copper sulphate 11 parts fresh ammonium carbonate

Mix thoroughly and stand for 2 hours in sealed container. Dissolve 1 ounce (28 g) in a little hot water and add this to 2 gallons of cold water and use immediately.

Rust

Puccinia aegra fungal infection. Yellow-brown spots on leaves and stem. Spray with Benomyl or Sulphide of Potassium (1 ounce to 2 1/2 gallons)

Leaf spot

Ramularia deflectens fungal infection. Dark spots on leaf margins followed by a white web covering the leaves. Associated with cool damp springs. Spray with fungicide.

Mildew

Oidium fungal infection. Violet-gray powder on fringes and underside of leaves. Caused by stagnant air. Can be limited but not necessarily eliminated by spraying (especially leaf undersides).

Cucumber mosaic virus

Transmitted by aphids. Fine yellow veining on young leaves, stunted growth, anomalous flowers. Virus can lay dormant, affect the entire plant and be passed to next generations and to other species. Prevention is key: purchase healthy plants, use ph-balanced soil which is neither too damp not too dry. Soil should have balanced amounts of nitrogen, phosphate, potash. Eliminate other diseases which may weaken the plant.

Pests

Slugs and snails

Lay sharp, gritty sand or top-dress soil with chipped bark. Clean area of leaves and foreign matter.

Aphids

Spray with diluted soft soap (2 ounce per gallon) Aphids are microscopic and lay eggs.

Cultivars

Pansy flowersThe Universal Plus series of 21 cultivars covers all the common pansy colors except orange and black.
Reply:I don't know where you live but if you are in the U.K. you cannot over water in this heat. Don't water when the sun is out wait until dusk and if you have poor soil try plant food and if it is heavy soil try digging some compost in in the autumn so your plants will do better next year. I am no expert but these thing s work for me
Reply:Pansies are about finished right now, mine are dying off too, some are dead.

What has happened to America? Why have we become so weak?

Why do we care about the lives and the rights of our enemies? Why are we too worried about offending someone or killing some "innocent" Iraqi/Muslim scum to properly fight the war we're in to defend the precious lives of our own citizens? Why don't we quit being a bunch of pansies and KILL/DESTROY our enemies before they destroy us? I'm sick of hearing people whine about what can we do to win in Iraq and change the backward, archaic, uncivilized structure of the middle east. We know what we can do, we've just become so nutless that we can't bring ourselves to do it. We need to show our enemies that we mean business and do what we have to do. No one fears us anymore because we're trying to be too nice. No one's ever won a war by being nice. We should take off the gloves and fight dirty. We ought to put aside the BS of piltical correctness, and we should destroy anyone who rises against us, screw diplomacy. These punks don't understand diplomacy, death is all they understand.

What has happened to America? Why have we become so weak?
No doubt.. it is as I have said some years ago.. It is a shame but the fault lies ENTIRELY on a) the politicians who are more interested in getting rich and staying in power; b) the corrupt media who is and has been dividing the United States people; c) and the general disenigration of our education system... Those are JUST a few but there are other reasons just as important. BUT.. You "ain't" seen nothing yet

Difference between regular football and kicking football?

I know they have different balls, and the kicking one is more circular (i think)

but how much harder is it to throw a kicking football?

and why do those pansy kickers need a special ball

Difference between regular football and kicking football?
more air too its harder to grip and slips out of your hand alot easier. besides kicking balls are easier to catch so returners have a chance
