I left my garden seeds outside in the garage. I am sure over the winter they froze solid?

can I still use them? I have alot.

I left my garden seeds outside in the garage. I am sure over the winter they froze solid?
They probably are fine, but you can test the viability of any old seeds. Lay out some strips of paper towels. Put ten seeds from each package on a seperate strip and label them. Fold the strips over the seeds then spray until the paper is quite moist. Place in a plastic bag in a warm place.


Most seeds sprout in one or two weeks when kept moist and warm. If most or none sprout from a particular package, you know those will not sprout in the garden.
Reply:The tomato seeds will be fine. I'm not sure about the sunflower seeds. A good way to keep seeds from year to year is to put them in the freezer.

Reply:The seeds will be fine. I recently saw a program on Public Television that shows scientists saving seeds of rare plants in freezers.
