How long will Pansies live in the Woodlands Texas??

I bought 2 pansies at Walmart for $1.00 each they are blooming. How long will they live and will they get bigger and will they last all winter and spring? I planted them in the garden in my back yard near an oak tree.

They typically last all winter and most of the spring. We just finished planting ours for this year.

We live in East Texas.
Reply:They will live in light snow as well..as long as it isnt for a prolonged period..but to remember ..pansies do not like wet feet..do not overwater..and they do not like too much nitrogen either..so lay off the miracle grow...
Reply:Hi:

You are in a climate where Pansies last all winter. They are annuals and will die off when the warmer weather returns. They do like sun so as long as they get some sunlight during the day near the Oak Tree.

Take a look at my annual photo gallery page of the website. It gives you a brief description of the Pansy. I will also link you to my site map so you can browse through the different sections and see if there is any other information you would need for any landscape project you may have in the future.

Good luck with your Pansies and if you need any other suggestions or advice, feel free to contact me. Have a great day!

Reply:I live in Fort Worth and plant Pansies every year around this time of year. They will last into the Spring. I would suggest however, plucking off any new buds or flowers that grow for the next couple of weeks. I know that sounds odd but it makes the plant put its energy into the root system and in producing more leafs which will give the plant more longevity and cause it to grow larger, giving you more flowers with brighter colors. Trust me, it works!
